Make 5 ingots at a time

Sent in by Chris Rothenberger When you have some room in your ships, and enough money, trade Carpet from Istanbul with Art from Athens. With a cargo load of 350, you can make 5 ingots at a time!

Clues tip

Sent in by Chris Rothenberger If you aren't getting any clues to your goal, raise your fame. If you're playing Joao, Pietro, or Ernst, raise Adventure, if you're Catalina or Otto, raise Piracy, if you're Ali, raise trade. Click here

Cartographer tip

Sent in by Chris Rothenberger With the Adventurers, sign up with a cartographer *before* leaving Europe. Otherwise, you may not be able to complete the scenario. Especially with Joao's scenario.

Fighting duels

Sent in by Chris Rothenberger Don't fight duels (if you can help it) until you've fought enough of the game's duels to know what you're doing. They're very complex and hard to win.

Fighting fleets

Sent in by Chris Rothenberger When fighting fleets, always aim for the flagship. If you have about 3 times their crew, rush. Otherwise, cannon fight. You'll probably need the Cannon guns to do any serious damage. If you use your cannons, make sure you have more crew assigned to combat than you have guns, or your power will be reduced.

Short walkthrough

Sent in by Phil Put the game in and turn on the console. Select New Game. The coding behind this game is so cheesy it doesn't randomly determine stats, they are drawn from a list. Reroll exactly 7 times. The 8th list allows enough free points that you can get all your stats into the 80s. Don't quit from within and reroll because it starts from a different part of the list and you wont get good stats. I like to give myself a 90 charisma and then balance the rest of the stuff, leaning toward the Courage and Strength side. When you trade with the merchants you will raise Charisma, Intelligence, and Wisdom, these also help you haggle harder and get slightly better prices per barrel. Charisma also helps you get in to see the princess and increases chances that she will accept your gifts. the more gifts you give her the more money her father will allot you when you Request it. Courage and Strength are important for battles, affecting the outcome and increasing for every victory. If you drive a foe off you can just quickly tap the button and engage him again. You start out with a Latin and some goods on board. Sell the valuable goods and buy repairs on your ship for 50 coins. Disband all but 10 of your crew, you don't need them for merchanting. Buy 10 food and water. Then fill the hold with sugar. Sail northeast with the current and follow the coast east. Where it bends north sail right up against the shore and you will discover Bordeaux. Re rations: I always gave my men 50% rations and they never got tired. If I was in a pinch if I forgot to load up for example, I would restore the saved game, or try to make it on thin rations- about 33%. when you get to port you can rest in the lodge for free which heals some of the fatigue. Remember to raise rations back to 50% this will heal them over time as well. If you are low on cash fill in the gap with water and assign maybe 40% food rations and 100% water. They will fatigue slower. In Bordeaux first sell your sugar. Selling things in a port drives the cost of items down. at this point buy food and water. Pushing the envelope you can get to Bordeaux at 50% rations with just 3 food and water without fatigue and can get back against the current with about 6 food and water the same. But if you like to be safe, stick to 10 food and 10 water. Now buy porcelain driving the price of goods back up (your sugar will be worth more next time). Sail back to Lisbon and sell the porcelain, driving the price of goods down. Buy food and water. buy sugar. repeat until you have some nice cash. If the merchant offers you a special deal to go out of your way, don't take it yet, it will cost you too much and be dangerous. if this feels real slow, sell your porcelain at Lisbon, then take your money and buy a load of food and water, about 40 each. Fill the rest with sugar. Then sail south to the Mediterranean, east until you see the island that most people will recognize as Sicily and the boot-shaped peninsula that is Italy. Sail along the west coast of Italy and you will find Pisa. Sell your sugar and buy Artwork. Sail south along the coast and on the same screen is Naples. Sell your artwork there for MAD MONEY and buy wool and just 2 or 3 food and water! :) Sell wool in Pisa and you are rich in no time. You may end up with max money and still goods in the hold this is ok they are like an extra bank for you. Once you have max money 60,000, go to a big port like Seville (just south of Lisbon, follow coast) and buy the ship with the biggest cargo space, either the galleon or the carrack. Buy it new with a cheapo teak hull, 0 gun space, the minimum 20 bunks, 3 point sails. This will cost maybe 30k? I forget. Now hire the extra 10 men you will need. Now buy 20 food and water. Now transfer 10 men to each and 10 food and water to each ship. Set sail but don't leave the area, change your flagship to the new one. Dock again and move all the men and supplies to your big ship. Sell the artwork in northern Europe as well, it pays well. Now sell your Latin, wont be worth much. How much money is left? Head back to Lisbon and resupply to 20 food and water. Drive the price of goods up by loading your big ship up with as much sugar as it can hold. You should have money left. Buy a lion figurehead if you like, but keep 7000 money free. Now head back to Bordeaux and do as you always do. Hit the bars and people will tell you if the king wants to see you. use some money to buy a telescope and Sextant in the guild shop somewhere. I think Sextant is in Lisbon and telescope in Seville? Meet the king and after you do, Deposit some money in the account. This account can get huge, millions of dollars. Go get the items he wanted, exactly the amount he wants. People in the bars will tell you a faraway place to get such an item but there is usually a place nearby. He gives you a title and you are allowed to see the princess sometimes. Getting in good with her helps you a lot. Use Flowers a lot. I didn't like giving Gift unless I had found a nice Treasure like Pearl Necklace (guild shop in Marseilles in northwestern Mediterranean) or Silver Rosary (guild shop in Genoa northern Mediterranean) she eats those up. Once you have a title you can use the palace as a bank. Save up as much money as you can get in this bank. You need 60000 in hand, maybe 60 food and water and a hull full of firearms for the next phase of my money plan. Sail south along the coast all the way to Africa. There are supply spots along the way. At Verde begin sailing west and you will run into an island town after more than 20 days. I forget the name its the first one you come to. Sell your stuff. Invest 6 times in block of 10000 coins exactly, selling your firearms as you can. note the day of the month. at the end of the month the money you invested will be applied and the merchant will be able to market a new item: Gold! The price is around 200 and you can haggle. First get enough food for 40 days which is like 80 food and 80 water. Buy as much gold as you can and sail back to Verde and then to Lisbon. Sell that gold in northern Europe for 1000 a pop! 5x return on investment. Return to that island again with a full load of firearms and 60000 and you can really clean up. In this case, DON'T buy food first! Toss the extra water you had on board and then sell as much firearms as allowed. If you have 60000 on hand already they wont let you sell any. So buy gold and store it in the space you had for the food. Then sell as many firearms as raise you back to 60000. Then buy gold to fit in that space. Gold costs more than firearms pay out so you should slowly decrease in cash on hand but when you get back to Europe you can go nuts. I liked to invest in all the ports because I had so much money. When you have a few million in the kings bank you really can do whatever you want. Invest in the shipyards in London several times until they can build Heavy Galleons. Go ahead and build a buff one it might cost 50k. Try being a pirate, pirate hunter or whatever you like!

Game Genie codes

Sent in by Tony Hedstrom NOTES: These codes must be used at the start of a new game. There are 2 different "Uncharted Waters" games. The first one is called "Uncharted Waters", and the second one is called "Uncharted Waters: New Horizons". These codes only work on the first one (Uncharted Waters). I do have codes for "New Horizons", but they are in a different file. DEEF-D7D5 Start with about $4000 gold (instead of only $1000). 45EF-D7D5 Start with about $10,000 gold (instead of only $1000). 1FEF-D7D5 Start with about $25,000 gold (instead of only $1000). E2EF-D7D5 Start with $65,000 gold (instead of only $1000).
