Here are the preferred weapons used for each stage.

Stage 1: Spray Missiles
Stage 2: Atomic Missile
Stage 3: Comrade Fighter
Stage 4: Sonic Wave
Stage 5: Autoaim Vulcan
Stage 6: MegaBeam Cannon
Stage 7: Megabeam Cannon
Stage 8: Plasma Shield

And for experts:

Stage 1: Laser Cannon
Stage 2: Autoaim Torpedos
Stage 3: Sonic Blaster
Stage 4: Autoaim Vulcan
Stage 5: Comrade Fighter
Stage 6: Plasma Shield
Stage 7 & 8: Any Weapon

Select a 2 player game, have player 1 press A. If Player 1 loses all his 
lives, grab player 2's controller and continue playing. Note: if the team 
is hit, the person who pressed A gets killed.
