Excalibur sword tip

Sent in by Shawn Wilton Before you fight Zeromus in the end make duplicates of the excalibur sword. If you make about five or so dart them at Zeromus and just use fight for everybody else the fight will last about three or four minutes. It's just that easy!

Medusa Sword

Sent in by Kame In the tower of Babil fight Medusas. Try sneaking from them and you might get the Medusa Sword. I've only got it once and I have owned the game for over 4 years. Very rare. When you use it Cecil says "They're turning to stone???". It petrifies enemies. At that point in the game it's the best sword. Has highest hit points till Excalabur.

Gain levels toward the end of the game

Sent in by Brian Lennon If Rydia's level is too low because she needs so much experience, to gain levels toward the end of the game, try killing Edge and Kain. You need Cecil to protect Rosa and Rydia and to do lots of Fight damage. It's tough, but Rydia and Rosa gain much needed Hit points, Magic Points, Wisdom, and Will.

Tip for Rydia

Sent in by Brian Lennon Here's a really good tip for Rydia. Other people tell you how to duplicate weapons and shields. Do this with the Samurai Bow and give it to Rydia with Artemis Arrows. She will do tons more damage than with the Flame whip or whatever you have. Here's the best way to get Artemis Arrows. Use mute on the warlock, and kill the Red Giant if there is one there. Don't kill everyone except the Kary's because they will hug you. Hug gives you all your HP's back, turns you to stone, and kills them. A muted Warlock is no problem, and use slow on the Kary's so they only do 1 damage. Use fast on Edge to make things go faster. Now sneak Kary's as much as your little heart desires.

Bomb

Sent in by Brian Lennon If you learn one of the rare call spells called bomb, it will do Rydia's current hit points plus 50 or something like that worth of damage.

Make the weapon/shield multiple itself by 255 times

Sent in by Cameron La Croix This makes the weapon/shield multiple itself by 255 times!!! You must follow this code EXACTLY as I have it here, or it will not work: For Cecil 1. Equip Cecil with a bow and some arrows. Make sure the arrows are in his good hand. 2. Go into battle. While in battle, unequip the arrows. (Select the arrows in Cecil's hand, and put them in a blank spot in the items list.) 3. NOW...select the AVENGER SWORD, and equip it in the hand where the bow is. 4. Let Cecil kill all the enemies. 5. When the battle is over, go to the equip menu, and you should see the Avenger sword in Cecil's bad hand, and a NUMBER in Cecil's good hand. There will be nothing next to the number...as if some invisible weapon was equipped. 6. Unequip the Avenger Sword, and equip any weapon that you want to multiply on Cecil's good hand. (The hand that has the NUMBER in it.) 7. When you equip it, you should see a black spot and a number next to it. Unequip and you are done!! You now have 255 of whatever you put in Cecil's hand!! For Cid All you have to do is BERSK Cid, or any character that can use bow/arrows. Have the bow & arrows equipped. Make sure the wizard that is casting BERSK takes his/her turn immediately BEFORE the player with the bow & arrows. Time it just right, so that you can choose the BERSK spell, and while you are waiting for the wizard to cast the spell, have the character with the bow & arrows choose the ITEM sub-menu, and UNEQUIP the ARROWS. DO NOT EXIT THE ITEMS LIST. While you are in the items list, the wizard should be casting the BERSK spell. STAY IN THE ITEMS LIST. The character will get BERSKed, and the ITEMS list will disappear and the battle will continue. You can either stay and fight, or choose to run away...it makes no difference. When the battle is over, go into the Equip menu and there should be a NUMBER in the characters hand where the ARROWS used to be. UNEQUIP the BOW. EQUIP the weapon/shield that you want to multiply in the hand that has the NUMBER in it. Keep equipping/unequipping until a BLACK BOX appears next to the weapon. (in the items list, not in the hand) THERE YOU HAVE IT! You now have 255 of that weapon/shield to throw, equip, or sell for CASH!

Adamant Armor

Sent by David You can get the Adamant Armor from the Blacksmith who gave you Excalibur. Fight the Pink Puffs in the Bottom-Right Hand corner of Lunar Subterranean B5. The chances of fighting the Pink Puffs are 1 in 64. The chances of them giving you the Pink tail are 1 in 64 also. Take the Pink Tail to the tail trader, and he'll give you another tail. take it to the Blacksmith.

Tip on attack power/defence

Sent by Morgan Stern Always remember, the highest attack power/defence doesn't mean its the best weapon/armor. For instance, when fighting leviathan, you may think diamond equipment is the best, but if you wear ice shields or armor, you won't be hurt by Ice 2. Another example is excaliber. It will have the highest attack until the end of the game, but it is not as good as the poison axe against giants or samurai arrows against flying beasts. Last just because something has low attack, it doesn't mean you shouldn't keep it, you can use it infinitely, and just equip it in battle when needed. The staff is perfect if you don't want to waste heals on poison, cure rod heals without the waste of items, fire spear casts fire2, and the best 2 are white spear (white) and masamune (fast).

Tons of experience

Sent in by Lan Here's a way to get tons of experience! First, in the core, go to the place where Breath and Mind attack. One of them (I forgot which one) is real dangerous and you should run (I think it's the white one) but the other one (orange) just keeps casting peep! Keep fighting it. Also, when the final imp-like monster found (in the Lunar Subterranian) fights you, he is even dumber than the white guy in the core! He casts peep on himself! But DO NOT use lightning on him, even though it says it! Even though he does get hurt by it a lot, he starts REPEATEDLY casting lit-3, which will kill your party quickly! Instead, use regular attacks and don't get too annoyed by his peeps.

Samurai Bow

Sent in by Matt You can find the Samurai Bow on the upper level of the town in the Land of the Summoned Monsters (the floor where the Rat Tail is). Go to the bottom of the floor and look on the inner edge of the walkway for a shadow in the shape of a square. Walk into the square and you will find the four treasures that you can see from the lower level of the town. One will contain the powerful Samurai Bow. Click here

Special items

Sent in by Matt E. There are many special items that can be won from fighting certain groups of enemies. A Dragoon Spear which is effective against dragons can be won from fighting: A Behemoth, Red D. group, Three Red D.'s, or a single Red D. on the way to Zeromus. A Crystal Ring can be won from: Two Behemoths, Two Red D.'s, or a single Red D. A RuneAxe can be won from two Red Giants. A Heroine Robe can be won from a Red Giant, a Kary and a Warlock. The Zeus Gauntlet can be won from two Red Bones and three Skeletons or two Skulls and three Red Bones. Also an easy way to get Artemis Arrows is to sneak Kary's. You can get an unlimited supply of Rosa's strongest arrows which are effective against dragons.

Level up

Sent in by Zero-K The best way to get levels up is when you fight the Marionettes that bring the dolls, hit the Marionette with the weakest person you have, when a doll appears, beat it and hit the Marionette again. After a few hits to the Marionette use a Cure 2-3 on it and keep going.

Secret passages in the final cave

Sent in by Ben There are many secret passages in the final cave. Somewhere by the stairs/bridges. I have found one secret passage in which you can find the crystal sword. The Guy you fight to get the crystal sword tells you if you beat him it will be a strong asset to beat Zemus (NOTE: If you are not prepared to fight don't try because this guy is harder than Behomet. Also if you fail once get more exp. and try again because the secret passage is long, but there is a save point right before the crystal sword. It's hit power is 200, it's hit ratio is 99.9%, its power is sacred, and it is good against anybody. If you dart the pan, which you get by talking to Yang at Sylph cave (you must talk to him not only the Sylphs. Do not get the treasure chest in the room with Yang they are just his claws.)then going to Fabul and talking to his wife, takes away 9999 hit points every time. If you go to the item menu (must do in this order) go to a blank spot press A, then go to his/her weapon or shield press A, and then run away (may do with more people at the same time) press X, go to Equip, to the person you took the weapon or shield away from, then press A on the empty spot go down to the weapon you took out, press A, press A again, finally press A again you will have an extra of that weapon. (does not work on arrows.)

Glass Helm and the Artimis Bow

Sent in by Jason Bergeron There are a few hidden items I didn't see mentioned like the Glass Helm and the Artimis Bow. The Glass Helm is found fighting the Breath's on the way to fight Zeramos and the Atemis Bow which to this day eludes me is supposed to gotten from the treasure chest on the Moon containing four of the Archer Babes.

Get rid of that annoying rumbling sound

Sent in by Jason Bergeron To get rid of that annoying rumbling sound when you beat the bosses, pause the game then unpause just as the rumbling starts and the noise has stopped.

Twins know all of the spells

Sent in by Howard This is not so much a tip as it is fun to do, but be warned, it's only for those who have plenty of time. You can have the twins in the game buffed up to the point at which they know all the spells in the game. Once the black magic one reaches level 60, he learns Meto. I think level 50 is the level in which the white magic one learns the spell White. By gaining all this experience, your other characters later on (like Kain) come back at ridiculously high levels. It's fun to hit the water fiend with White/Meto, not to mention using Nuke on anything else in your way.

Easy way to get tons of experience

Sent in by m0g Here's an easy way to get tons of experience. In the cave leading to the town of monsters cast Float over your party (which is a good idea anyway so the acid/lava/goo/ whatever don't harm you) and walk around until you find a Conjuere that keeps calling Arachne's until you kill him. Keep killing the Arachne's but don't harm the Conjurer. Keep killing the Arachne (whose attack won't harm you if you are Floating) until your states get low or you get bored. Then kill the Congurer and at the end of the battle you'll have tons of exp., tons of GP and tons of potions.

Call spells you can get for Rydia

Sent in by John Jacques These are some call spells you can get for Rydia. Imp Call spell: This one has a very weak attack and takes a long time to get. Fight Imps near Baron. Odds 1 in 200. Bomb Call spell: This one is pretty good, with high damage on one enemy. Get it by fighting Bomb family monsters. Odds 1 in 100. Mage Call spell: This is also a good one, with a Magic attack affecting all enemies. Fight Mages in Cave Magnes. Odds 1 in 100.

Sylph is free

Sent in by Michael Ravis Don't got to the Sylvan Cave until after destroying the Giant of Bab-il. After the Giant is destroyed go to the Slyph's house and Rydia will learn Sylph. If she has the number of magic points that is normally necessary to cast it she'll be able to cast it for free. You will not be able to get the spoon if you do this, but Sylph will always be free.

Beating the bosses

Sent in by Gillian Kinney. How to beat up the bosses: Mist Dragon - Choose Parry when it turns into mist and attack when it's in its normal form. Octomamm - Use Tellah's Lit-1 and Rydia's Chocobo. Antlion - Hide Edward. Use Rydia's Chocobo. Mom Bomb and little bombs - Attack and use Chocobo if necessary. Milon - Have Cecil attack Milon and the twins cast Twin. This gets rid of the Ghasts also. Milon Z. - Before you cross the bridge, switch the lines in your party, use a tent, and save. Use Palom's Fire2 (it does more damage than Twin) for hurting, Porom's Cure2 for healing, and Tellah's Heal if you get poisoned. Cecil's image - Parry for three rounds. The battle will stop. Baigan - Make sure you're healed and the game's saved. Sometimes Palom or Tellah (whoever attacks first) can fire off a Lit-2 or Lit-3 to Baigan's body before he casts Wall. Try it and just restart the game if it doesn't work. Attack Baigan's body before you attack the arms because they'll just regenerate if the body's still alive. Kainazzo - Don't do this after you've just killed Baigan; rest up first. Use Lit-2 and Lit-3 and he'll fry in no time. Dark Elf - Relentlessly attack. When he turns into a dragon and breathes on you, use a Cure3 spell on the whole party after each breath attack. Magus Sisters - Concentrate your attacks on Cindy (the middle sister). When somebody in your party is Walled, cast Virus on him/her. 1/3 of the time it will hit Cindy. She takes what seems like a quadrillion hits, but the battle's a joke once she's gone. Valvalis - Have Kain jump and everybody else attack or heal if necessary. Calbrena - Kill as many dolls as you can, but they'll eventually turn into Calbrena. Just try to beat it up as quickly as possible and Cure yourself often so you're not killed. Make sure Cecil is alive at the end of the battle. Golbez appears after Calbrena is killed, and your attacks won't do any damage until he calls a dragon. Have Kain Jump when it's his turn; he will stay in the air, will not be killed by the dragon, and will do damage to Golbez when he lands. Mad Scientist, Balnab, Balnab Z. - These are pretty jokey; just do whatever you want with them. Virus works well. Odin - Use Lit spells and Indra. Asura - Cast Wall on Asura to steal her Cure spells. Use Titan and regular attacks. Leviatan - Use Indra and other lightning magic and Asura for healing. You should be able to beat him right after you've triumphed over Asura (but make sure to heal up first, of course!) King and Queen of Eblan - You don't even have to do anything; they commit suicide. Rubicant - Cast tons of Virus spells and Cure your party often. Bring along lots of Life potion; you'll need it! EvilWall - Use Leviatan, Asura, and regular attacks. Try to beat it up as quickly as possible so it won't Crush your party. 4 Elements (inside the Giant of Bab-il) - Make sure Rydia has at least two level 3 elemental spells before returning to the earth. They cause almost twice as much damage as her elemental Caller spells and are therefore preferable. Here's what to use during the battles: Milon - Fire3 or Jinn Rubicant - Ice3 or Shiva Kainazzo - Lit3 or Indra Valvalis - Lit3 or Indra; full-party Cure4 or Asura if she uses the Storm spell (this is likely, so watch out!) Computer - Beat up in this order: Defender, CPU, Attacker. Use full-party Cure3 or Cure4 after every few Maser attacks. Killing the satellites first is a waste of time because the CPU will use Globe199 (instant death for one party member) and regenerate the satellites. At this point, you will most likely have Excalbur (if you don't, I'll tell you where to get it at the end of this list). Duplicate tons of Excalbur swords (I'll tell you how to do that, also) and keep at least 15 of them on hand, plus one extra for future duplication. Dart Excalbur swords at all of these final bosses. Bahamut - Wall Rosa and as many people as possible while attacking Bahamut with your other party members. He will most likely MegaNuke you; it will bounce off the walls and do tons of damage to him but kill everybody else. Revive, Wall, and attack until Bahamut is killed. Pale Dim (guards Murasame) - Cast full-party Float before going into battle. His main attack is the Quake spell, so this isn't too bad. Just use your standard strategies. Wyvern (guards Crystal Sword) - Use Wall to protect your party and Bahamut and Asura for attack and healing, respectively. Also whale on him with standard attacks. Plague (guards White Spear) - A royal pain in the tookus. Use Bahamut and other attacks to attempt to defeat him before the count runs out. There is a way to beat the count, but it's difficult and requires near-perfect timing. Make sure to save before attempting this. When it's Rosa's turn, wait until the count hits 02 and have her cast Life2 on the party member with first attack. This only works sometimes but is terrific when it does. Hopefully, Rosa will revive a freshly killed party member in the instant before she dies; then, the live party member can use Life potions to wake up the others. If this works, you'll most likely only need it once and can easily beat Plague before the next count runs out. D. Lunar (guards Ribbon Helmets) - Use Bahamut and Asura. These things are a real pain, so be prepared for a long battle. Ogopogo (guards Masamune) - Use Lit3 and keep healing yourself with Asura and full-party Cure4 after he throws Big Waves at you. He dies pretty quickly because Excalburs take off lots of HP. Zeromus - Use the Crystal and get ready for a loooong battle. Attack with White, Bahamut, Nuke, and Meteo plus Darts and normal attacks. You will need lots and lots of Asura, Cure4, Life1, and Life2 spells; make sure to bring Elixir along! Good luck!
Sent in by William Gott Here's an easier way to beat the Dark Elf. When he turns into a dragon, use weak, then hit him.
Sent in by Brian Lennon To kill Red Giants and just about any Dragon (including Ging- and King-Ryu's) use weak to reduce their HP's to a single digit. If you use magic on a Red Giant, he will beam you for 400-700 damage. If you use call on a Red Giant, he will explode, killing himself, but your guy gets damaged for however much the R.G. has left. Good way to kill yourself. Use Sylph, psych and drain on trickers to recover your guys. Don't use lightning spells for 2 reasons: first, you don't need to. All they do is cast peep on themselves, and won't hurt you. Second, if you do use lit, he will cast lit-3 on your party. If you don't use lit, it's an easy 4200 exp. If you use white or meteo on a Behemoth, it will storm you, reducing your Hp's to one digit. Using the same spells on Zeromus will result in a weak spell. Bahamut works well. Don't use psych on Breath. You only get 1 MP out of it, and it will use blast, which is like hold and Vampire or Virus at the same time. Just fight it out for some easy experience.
Sent in by Derek Logue Do not use Meteo or White on Zeromus, because if you do, he will cast Weak on the party. He will almost never cast Weak if you do not cast these spells on him. Rely on Bahamut instead and Rosa is supposed to be healing up the party anyway.

How to get out-of-the-way items

Sent in by Gillian Kinney. And now for a section on how to get out-of-the-way items: Spoon Dagger - As soon as you get a ship that can cross lava, go to the Sylvan Cave in the upper left section of the underworld and find Yang and the Sylphs. When you can reach the overworld again, talk to Yang's wife in Fabul and receive a Pan. Return to the underworld, smack Yang with the Pan, and return it to his wife. She will give you a Spoon Dagger which can be Darted at anything for 9999 damage. (There's only one in the game, so save it for Zeromus.) Excalbur - Get a Rat Tail from a treasure chest in the Town of Monsters. In the overworld, use the airship with a hook to take the hovercraft over to Silvera. Use the hovercraft to cross the reefs to a cave on the next island. Give the Rat Tail to a man inside the cave for Adamant. Take the Adamant to Kokkol the Smith in the lower righthand corner of the underworld and he'll turn your Legend Sword into Excalbur. (You can also find Elixir in his bookshelf.) Dragon Whip - The best whip for Rydia is rare and can be obtained (if you're lucky) by fighting Blue Dragons. Unfortunately, the odds against your finding this are pretty steep. Adamant Armor - This is a toughie simply because of the steep odds involved. Look for a room on B5 of the moon that has a treasure chest against the righthand wall. Walk around the room and hope you run into some Pink Puffs. Every time you enter the room, there's a 1 in 64 chance you'll find them. To increase your odds, walk around for a bit, leave the room, and return. Found Pink Puffs? Good so far. Now beat them up and hope they're the 1 group in 64 with a Pink Tail! If you're lucky enough to get the tail, take it to the same man who gave you Adamant to receive Adamant Armor. It's the best armor in the game, and every party member can wear it. Warning: If you want this armor badly, be prepared to spend hours and hours hoping you'll get the Pink Tail. I have only fought 3 groups of Pink Puffs in my entire FF II career, and alas, they had no tail.

Duplicate weapons/shields

Sent in by Gillian Kinney How to duplicate weapons/shields: 1. Equip a character (I'll call him/her X) with the weapon/shield you wish to duplicate. 2. Go into battle and parry until it's X's turn. Choose Item. Point at a blank spot in the item list and then at the item you're duplicating. (This order is important.) Once X is de-equipped, don't do anything else but press L and R to run away. 3. Re-equip X with whatever you wanted to duplicate. X will now be equipped with two weapons or shields. 4. Repeat as often as you want for unlimited free stuff which you can sell, dart, or give to other characters.

Behemoth tip

Sent in by Gillian Kinney. Unless you're suicidal, do NOT use the White spell on a Behemoth! It causes tons of damage, but the Behemoth will immediately use the Storm spell, which reduces everyone's HP to single digits. It sometimes does this after Meteo as well. You can usually Nuke a Behemoth without it Storming you.

Easy way to kill the Cal Brena

Sent in by Nick Garver This is an easy way to kill the Cal Brena. Kill 2 of the Brena. (make sure you don't kill the third)! Now kill all the Cals. Now you can kill the third Brena. If you do this, you don't have to fight Calbrena.

Skip the entire hidden cave adventure

This lets you skip the ENTIRE hidden cave adventure! After the battle with golbez in which Rydia re-joins the party, don't move. You will be standing in front of the Dwarf King, who will tell you that you must get the Dark Crystal back. He gives you the Luca Key. Now. Go to the menu and have Rydia cast Warp. You're back in the crystal room. Take the Crystal (that golbez also took) and you will have the Dark Crystal. Take that to the hidden cave. Kain will go through his theaters and take it, and you will have completed the cave without even playing it!

Tip on Besrk and Fast

Never underestimate the value of casting Besrk and Fast on a character who inflicts a lot of hand-to-hand damage. Especially against bosses. Just don't let him get Charmed.

Safely cast Call spells on a Walled creature

You can safely cast Call spells on a Walled creature. Failing this, cast Wall on a party member, and bounce the offensive spells off his Wall onto your opponent. Spells only bounce once, thus will not reflect back in your face when you do this.

Easy experience

For some easy experience, try this: In areas where you fight Alert or Summoners, let them keep calling monsters. The Alert won't call anything until you attack it, so use a low level spell, such as VENOM, which takes off very few hp (so the fight lasts longer). Defeat the summoned enemies repeatedly and rack up the experience!

Loseing a character tip

If you know that you will "lose" a character (he will leave your party) then de-EQUIP him before he leaves so that you may keep the weapons and armor, and sell them. On a similar note, if you know that a person will join your party in a location far from a town, i.e. Rosa in the Tower of Zot, buy the armor and weapons for that character in advance, if you can afford it.

Tip for Sylvan or Summoned monster caves

Immediately upon entering the Sylvan or Summoned monster caves, cast the float spell on all your characters. All characters can be effected at the same time-you don't have to cast the spell five times. You do, however have to do it each time you go up or down a floor.

Big Whale control switches

On the Big Whale, there are two control switches. One is the crystal in the center of the room, as you enter the ship. That will take you from planet to planet. The other switch is directly above the crystal, on the wall. This will let you fly the ship around on the planet you are on. When you get FusoYa, you can do the latter and fly over to Bahamut's cave, and get his call magic. It will help you defeat the Elements and the CPU inside the Giant of Bab-Il. If you don't, it doesn't matter; you can always come back later.

Info about Kokkol, the Smith

A note about Kokkol, the Smith. This guy is a real psycho. He will change your Light Sword to Excalibur! But there is a reason why you should save your GP for him. He is the only one who can MAKE the Shuriken and the Ninja stars. The Ninja star is 50,000 GP and the Shuriken is 20,000 GP. You should realize that once these things are used as darts, they will cause MAJOR damage to your enemies (around 6 or 7 thousand), however, they will be gone after one use. Also, you must wait to get these also, just like you have to wait to get the Excalibur Sword. You may need to progress the Story, but it could be time, also. If it's time, you must wait some amount more than 15 hours of real time. If Story progression, you must go an amount above getting FuSoYa, the Lunarian on the Moon.

Secret weapons

About getting those secret weapons... If you want the secret weapons mentioned in this file, go right ahead and go for it. But only do it if you have a lot of patience. Things like the Medusa Sword, Imp Shield, and Artemis Arrows take a long time to get, but are well worth the effort. If you just can't get those weapons, it's ok. Wait until you've been to the Moon! Then go back with your power-packed-puncing-party and kick monster butt until you get the weapons you wanted.

Level-up like crazy

In the Core there are monsters more powerful than anything you've ever seen. This is the best place in the game if you want to get Level-Ups like crazy. You should go to one floor before the Crystal-Panels. When upon them, you will not be able to cast Exit. I would recommend that you fight monsters and then Cure yourself. As you advance, Cure1 can recover about 900-1000 HP. So fight the tough monsters, and reap the rewards (about 20000GP and 12000EXP) ! You will find in the chests: A full set of Crystal Armor, Dragoon Armor, and these weapons: The Sword of Black, Masamune. The Spear of White. The Sword Murasame. All these, you must fight for. Usually, the monsters are not too hard, as long as you fight well. Use Bahamut Call or Nuke magic if you have it, and you will win. Also, on the Crystal Tiles, there is one MAJOR problem. That problem is: First, there are about 5-10 bosses here, waiting on certain tiles that you cannot predict. Second, the monsters that are randomly encountered here CANNOT BE RUN FROM AND CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING: EVIL MASKS, IN GROUPS OF 1 OR 2, RED DRAGONS, IN GROUPS OF 1 OR 3, BLUE DRAGONS, 1 ONLY, A NEW MONSTER CALLED BREATH, A NEW MONSTER CALLED OGIPOGO, AND A FEW MORE. Be very careful and stay near the Special Zone, which is near the entrance to the Crystal Tiles. On the Crystal Tiles, there is a truly AWESOME background. You may want to enter the Crystal Tiles and leave just to see this. If times get tough, don't hesitate to use Exit, because you can get back to where you are. Among the monsters you can run from and are not on the Crystal Tiles are Trickers, King-Ryus (stronger than Ging-Ryus) , and variations of Guards and Karys. There will also be MANY MANY MANY Behemoths as bosses during your trip. Remember, you know that you cannot Peep or Run when the Boss music is playing. Even if it doesn't look strong, fight ferociously and without mercy. Conserve your magic and use Bahamut only when necessary. You will find that telling everybody to just plain fight can be more effective than waiting for the magical attacks to destroy your 'friends'. Make sure you pick up the Spear of White, the Masamune, and the Murasame. They will be floating over a panel. When touched, monsters will appear. Nothing too powerful. You should win if everybody has good HP. A good idea is to call Asura right away, as you will take a high amount of damage right as the battle starts, such as with Ogopogo, who attacks with two Big Waves instantly, almost. Everyone will take 1-2 thousand damage! Remember not to waste your tents unless you don't want to re-enter the cave. Simply by Exiting and going into the Shrine again, you can restore HP, MP, and Status!

Floating

Once you have acquired the White Magic spell of Float, enter either the Sylph's cave or the land of Summoned Monsters. Cast the spell on everyone right away. If everybody is floating, the flashing panels will not hurt you. But beware, for the effects of Float wear off whenever you enter another area, such as a new level (EX: B1F-B2F) or a town, etc.. You should ALWAYS use this spell in the land of Summoned Monsters, because you will find that one enemy will almost always call Arachne, whose only attack is Quake.

Meteo

You can acquire this mighty magic only with a Level 60 Caller. Once you have the legendary Meteo, the game will be much easier. Use Meteo wisely, though, so that you do not find yourself in need of Bahamut or a Black Magic like Lit-3 or Ice-2 and find that you have 2 or 3 MP left.

Bahamut Call (MegaFlare/MegaNuke Attack on All Enemies)

To get this spell, you must have defeated the Queen and King of Summoned Monsters. Once you have accomplished that, read this. Go to the Moon with the Big Whale, and enter the cave that is inside of the circle of rock. Be prepared to fight some very difficult monsters called Behemoths, which can give 1000 damage to a weaker character such as a level 40 Rydia. Call Leviatan as much as possible to give this big brainless behemoth 2500 Damage. Attack with the Light Sword, or, if you have it, the Avenger. After Behemoth is killed three times, use the spell of Exit, and rest in the Big Whale beds. Save your game. This battle will be difficult. Timing is the essence. Go into the cave and talk to Bahamut. He will challenge you. Do not waste any spells except Lit3 on him. He will count down 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 very slowly. IMPORTANT: Once Bahamut reaches 4 or 3, cast Wall on everybody. DO NOT FIGHT BAHAMUT UNLESS YOU HAVE THE SPELL WALL!!!! If you have done this correctly, once Bahamut counts to 0, he will transform into a large dragon and will attack with the spell MegaNuke! This will kill ANYONE unless you use wall, in which case, if you have weakened him enough, Bahamut will fall to his own attack and perish, rewarding you with the spell MegaFlare, which will inflict 9999 Damage to almost any monster.

Asura Call (Cure All Allies)

Go to the Town of Monsters (If you don't know where it is, it's Northwest of the Island Southeast of the Castle, where there is a small three-square town. Make sure you aren't in the Sealed Cave, which is on the same island as this town) and enter the library. Go down twice, and you'll be ready. Do not attempt this battle unless you have saved at the Special Zone in the town, because you will need to be quite powerful. Asura's attack is a VERY damaging destructive force. She will change heads, and attack. No magic will be used against you, and her major weak point is that she casts Life1 when she is still alive (duh, stupid, duh). Be prepared to do AT LEAST 4000 damage per combat round (everyone attacks) , because Asura will use many Cures, all of them either Cure3 (restore apx. 3000 HP) or Cure4 (restore apx. 10500 HP) . Keep fighting her until you win. Once you have won, go to the inn and spend an expensive night. Note: All the spells Asura uses (i.e. Cure 1,2,3, etc...) are the spells she uses on the party when called. The spell will be randomly generated and is not always what you want. For example, your party may not have died, but is weak, and Asura will try to bring back to life already quite alive members of your party (duh!) .

Leviatan Call (Tidal Attack on All Enemies)

See above, then... Now you can attack King Leviatan, the Master of the Sea. He is actually not very large, about three men high and two wide, and is a giant green serpent. To defeat him, use everything you have that is strong. When he falls, you will learn the awesome ability to summon Leviatan, Levia for short. This Call will inflict around 5000 damage on normal enemies.

Odin Call (Sword Attack on All Enemies)

See above, then... If you haven't spoken to the REAL King of Baron yet, you must. From the entrance of Baron, go up until you are in the first room, then take the stairs to the right, below the guard who is scared. Then, go south and out of the room. Go under the overpass, and into the tower. Take the stairs down, then follow the corridor until you arrive at the King's Room, where you will know what to do automatically. Then go to the land of Summoned Monsters and kill the King and Queen. Now you can attack Odin. To do this, fight King Leviatan, and his Queen. Then hop on the airship and leave the Underground world. Go to Castle Baron. Go to the room mentioned above, and the King will tell you that he will fight you. He is Odin. When he attacks, use Rydia's Lit3 to inflict 9999 Damage to Odin. The reason for this is explained in a book in the Library in the Town of Summoned Monsters. It says that the only time Odin was defeated was when his sword was struck by lightning. After you attack Odin and win (hopefully), you will learn how to call Odin. His sword will slice your enemies to croutons! Odin's Sword is mighty indeed, but it cannot slice these two things: Many enemies at once and/or very large enemies (half-screen height or larger, apx.) .

Sylphian Call (Take HP's from One Enemy, All Ally)

To do this, you must have first defeated the Giant of Bab-Il. Once Yang has given you his message, he is well again, but you will not see him. Once you get to the moon, simply return to earth, enter the Sylphian cave, and talk to the Sylph closest to the door of the Sylph's house. She will teach you the Calling of Sylph! Note: The amount of HP taken will be spread evenly to all members of your party. It's sort of like Asura, but it hurts your enemies as well!

Special Items which do not affect the outcome of the story

Pass-This is a 10000 GP item that you should not buy unless you want to see dancing. When used in a certain inn where it is sold, you can walk through a secret door, and watch dancing as much as you like by talking to the attendant. Whistle-This is worth 10000 GP. You should probably keep it though, as you probably have amassed over 1000000 GP. When you use it, no matter where you are, it will summon the Big Chocobo. I suppose it might be useful if you had stored Elixir and you needed it, or something like that. You will find this in the Core, which, for the inexperienced, is after you defeat the Giant of Bab-Il. Don't worry about it, you'll know when you get there. Rat-This is the tail of a Rat. You can pick it up in the entrance to the Town of Summoned Monsters. Once you go down the stairs and into the Town itself, go back up and this time walk down from the stairs. There is a treasure chest. Inside it is the Rat's tail, which you can use to get the Adamant Ore. Pink-The mystical tail of the Pink Puff. See the end of this file for details. Trade it to the old man who collects tails. Pan-Mysterious item used to clank Yang. See the section above on the Spoon Dagger. Adamant-This is an ore that you must give to the man southeast of the castle of Dwarves. To get it, get the Rat's tail (see above), then go pick up the Hovercraft and set it down near Silvera. Land and use the Hovercraft to reach the small cave slightly Southeast of Silvera. Inside that cave, walk straight up and give the old man the Rat's tail. In return, he gives you the Adamant Ore.

Cave of Magne

This cave is a pain because of the magnetic field which restricts the use of anything metallic. In my opinion, the easiest thing to do is keep your guys just the way they are, and run from the battles. The cave isn't too large, so you should be ok. This way, the battling at the end is easier. The first time you see the Dark Elf, everyone will die automatically. There's no way around it. Then Edward will play his TwinHarp and the field will be neutralized. In addition, the party will have full HP again. Fight on, and the battle is not hard at all.

Cave of Summoned Monsters

Use float here, also. The tiles can be very damaging. You should fight the magic users here, as they call lots of Arachnes, which can only attack with Quake. If your floating, this is basically free GP and EXP. No problem. As before, don't miss the chests, especially the Avenger sword! Get the secret chests in the town (explained above) and defeat King Leviatan and his Queen Asura. They will be your major calling spells for a long time.

Information about the Core

Some additional information you should know about the Core's Crystal Tile section is: 1. The monsters cannot be run from, but CAN be avoided. DO NOT touch ANY tile that you do not HAVE to cross, and you will see fewer enemies, because they are spaced to trick you into touching a tile near a dead end. Stay on course as much as possible. 2. You can cast the white magic of Exit to elude these monsters. 3. You should keep the Gungnir Spear and all other such powerful weapons for later use (explained below in next section) . Try to find the Ninja Stars, which can do 4500 damage!

Tips on Conserving your GP

Rest One of the most wasteful ways of getting rid of your hard-earned, blood-money is to stay at inns. Inns are WORTHLESS!!! If you can't fathom this, don't read any further. OK, what you want to do: First, in almost all cases later in the game, Tents cost a fraction of the cost of an inn. Why waste 500 GP for one night when you can spend a night outside for a mere 100 GP? Multiply this by the number of times you need to rest and you can save hundreds of thousands of GP!!! Now a quick quirk... Tents are WORTHLESS!!! In almost every part of the game, you can simply stay for free somewhere, or recover by another method, such as this...the most efficient, easy, and absolutely free convenience! First, find a Chocobo area. Then, enter it and cure all your party as much as possible. Now touch a White Chocobo. Poof! All MP recovered. If you aren't healed, heal and talk to the White Chocobo AGAIN!!! FREE HEALING/CURING!!!!!!! Items Ok, lets understand something. There are, literally, SEVERAL MILLION GP WORTH of items just waiting to be found. If you read this file carefully, you can get almost all of them! Realize that every town, every continent, every level, and even some plain ordinary places DO HAVE SECRETS! Take for instance the Town of Baron. Treasures abound here. Check the pots, and don't forget to go to the area east of the water to the old lady and walk through the trees! The ONLY time you should buy items is when you are absolutely out of them. Weapons and Armors Believe it or not, again most of your needs are provided for. You should only have to re-equip the party about 4 times before the end of the game with store bought equipment. Search carefully and seek out all those hidden weapons and armors of incredible power and value! It's WORTH it. TRUST me. If you don't want something like the Dwarf Axe, sell it for 50000 GP. In General Horde cash. It's worth it later in the game when inns cost 1500 GP a night and you can't seem to find those Chocobos that run around at warp speed. If you can't find some of the things in this hint file, buy them later. Yes, horde GPs, but if it means the difference between gaining 20 levels, go ahead. There are plenty of lucrative opportunities out there for the good players.

Zemus

As the story progresses, you will find out that...well, I won't ruin the surprise, but it concerns Golbez and a Lunarian called Zemus, who is so EVIL that even though buried in the Core and sleeping, his mind can still control people for Evil. Zemus waits for you at the end of the Core. When you arrive, Golbez and FuSoYa will fight Zemus and destroy him with W. Meteo, which gives Zemus 9999 damage. After the battle, all seems well until... FLASH! CRACK! BOOM! FLASH! With a burst of light and a boom of sound, Zeromus, the living essence of the hatred of Zemus and all other beings, will appear. Instantly, he will destroy everyone except Golbez and FuSoYa, who will fight, but to no avail. They too are defeated by Zeromus. Suddenly, from the Tower of Wishes on Earth, the Elder, Palom, Polom, Cid, Yang, Cid's Assistants, and more will all wish for you. Suddenly, our Paladin awakes, with only 1 HP. Golbez gives him the Crystal. Our hero approaches Zeromus and says 'Zeromus! For all the people of Earth, I will destroy you!' With that, our hero attacks Zeromus. Suddenly, the wishes arrive. First Palom and Porom restore the parties' lives. Then all the other wishers give energy which restores the party to max HP and MP. Now the battle begins. First, use the Crystal and start calling Bahamut if you have the ability. The crystal will change Zeromus into a being that is half the size of the screen. Don't be afraid, this guy isn't tough if you have Asura and/or Cure4. After you use the Crystal, settle in for a 100000 HP monster to defeat. For the Ninja Edge, select DART and use these in the following order of power if you have them: Spoon Dagger Gungnir Spear (Equip Kain with the Spear of White) Excalibur Sword Defense Sword Avenger Sword Light Sword Any and All Ninja Stars Any and all Shuriken Stars This combination should do a ton of damage. Combined with the attack of the Crystal Sword, Bahamut, the Spear of White, and the Murasame and Masamune Swords, you should win. The main attack of Zeromus is BigBang, which may cause up to 2000 damage to every party member. Always use either Cure4 on everyone by pressing right on the control pad, or call Asura. Either way, keep attacking. After a while, Zeromus will fall, and you will see an ending that is worth it. You will see the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, and two moons circling the sun. You will see Palom and Porom. You will see the Dwarfs and the Engineers. You will see Yang on the throne of Fabul, and Edward, King of Damycyan. You will see the wedding ceremony of Rosa and Cecil. Kain standing atop Mount Ordeals. You will see...the credits (oh boy) + METEORS!!! Have Fun!

Beating the bosses

Octomamm: Use Rydia's call magic(chocobo) and Tellah's lit spell along with Cecil's powerful attacks to defeat him. Not very difficult to beat. Antlion: Since the antlion responds to hand attacks by taking off a lot of damage, use magic and Rydia's chocobo to win here. Have Cecil attack (if you think you can spare the HP's) but you really only need him here to administer cure potions. Milon (1): Have Cecil attack Milon directly, as he cannot harm the undead monsters. Let Tellah use his fire spells and make the twins cast TWIN until the battle is over. If you need to refill energy, use Tellah or potions, as MP are hard to come by this early in the game. Immediately after defeating Milon, save your game at the nearby save spot. Milon (2): Right before the end of the bridge, use change to reverse the rows of your party This will save you time during the fight and let you get an extra attack in. Milon will use poison against you, so have Tellah use heal potions or the heal staff, if you have one. Have the twins TWIN, and make Cecil attack. Baigan: The middle section of Baigan will cast WALL on itself immediately after the battle begins, so if you use magic, use it on the arms. Have Cecil attack the body and have Yang use his special attack. Kainazzo: Immediately have your wizards (Tellah/Palom) cast their strongest Lit spells. Use Porom to heal your party after Kainazzo floods you. Have Cecil and Yang attack as normal. Dark Elf: When you first fight the Dark Elf, you must intentionally lose the fight. If you have A LOT of hp, attack yourself, or else it will take forever. After he beats you, Edward will use the Twin harp to revive you. You will have full hp and MP, but it wouldn't hurt here to save the game in the room right outside. Just attack the Dk. Elf as any other enemy; his only attack is a combo of ice, lit, and fir (all level 2), which isn't even that strong. When you defeat him you will be rewarded with the Crystal of Earth. Magus Sisters: The main strategy here is to attack the heaviest one first (middle). Do not use magic unless the sister casts wall a second time and it reflects onto one of your characters. If this happens, have Tellah cast his strongest spell (ONLY ONCE) on the member of your party with the wall. You have a one in three chance of hitting the middle sister. Once she is defeated, the Delta attack cannot work and you should lose no more hp, making it easy to defeat the other two sisters. Valvalis: Have Kain constantly using his jump attack to stop her spin. Have Cecil attack, and have Cid attack also. Use Rosa to heal you, unless you brought an extra set of bow and arrows along. Another good idea here is to carry some armor Rosa can use with you into the Tower of Zot, and Equip her with it before you fight Valvalis. Otherwise she is not well protected. Calbrena: Two strategies here: First, you can go all out and try to kill all six dolls before they merge. This is a great idea if you are powerful enough. Otherwise, you can just wait it out and heal yourself until they form CalBrena. After that, just attack as you would any other foe. Balnab/Dr. Lugae: Once you defeat these two, Lugae transforms himself and you must defeat him again. He's not that tough. Just use your head and heal when you have to. EvilWall: Have Rydia use Virus (or Levia, if you have it already). At any rate, just make her do her most powerful magic. Edge should use the stars that you have picked up along the way so far. When those are gone, Bersk him. Rosa should Bersk Cecil right away, so he can get in more attacks. Have Kain jump every time. If one of your characters gets crushed, bring him back to life, but only use life1. Don't waste your MP filling him/her back up. Do that after the battle, because once the Wall starts crushing, it doesn't matter how many HP's you have, because you're dead. The King and Queen of Elban: The important thing here is to keep people alive. If you can last until the King and Queen come to their senses, you are all set. You don't even have to attack, as they will come to their senses regardless of if you attack or not. You can fight them if you want to. Don't be afraid to use up you MPs, because Rubicant heals you completely before you fight him. A good idea here is to go back down to the save room, just in case you think you can't defeat Rubicant. Rubicant: Its very difficult to time, but most of the time it works well. Have Rydia cast her Shiva or Ice3 spell, but try to time it so she casts it as Rubicant opens his cape. Otherwise, Ice and cold spells heal him. Bersk Cecil (you should do this with every boss) If more than one of your characters are swoon, then have Edge cast Flame. Rubicant will revive all dead members of your party. Have Rosa attack, then cure, then attack, etc. Queen Asura: Rosa must be at level 34 or everyone else must be at level 99. Have Rosa cast the wall spell on Asura, and all her cures will reflect onto your players. She rarely attacks, so you don't have to even worry about curing yourself. Just attack her until she dies. She can't refill her energy. King Leviatan: Just attack him, and Cure yourself after he waves you. As always, besrk Cecil and this time Edge, as well. King Bahamut: As soon as you get FuSoYa, go to Bahamut's cave on the moon. You can do it without him, but it is MUCH MORE DIFFICULT, as you only have one person who can cast Wall. Use Rosa and FusSoYa to cast wall on as many members of your party as you can before Meganuke comes. Use your judgment here... decide for yourself which characters you need to stay alive. If you can get them all, great. But chances are, your wizards aren't at a high enough level to cast wall spells quickly. Have the wizard(s) cast Wall on themselves, so in case anyone else dies, they can stay alive to cast wall again. CPU: This is a snap if you got the bahamut spell before returning to Earth. Attack the healing globe first, then the attacker, then concentrate on the big one. You are likely to fall victim to GLOBE99, which instantly kills your character. Just have Rydia do BAHAMUT constantly, and have FuSoYa cast his strongest spell. -Alt. strategy: Go after the Defender first, then the attacker, then the CPU. This way, you will be taking damage from the attacker, which is considerably less than the CPU. Zeromus: First, use the crystal (CECIL MUST USE IT). Once he has transformed, Bersk Cecil. Have Rydia use Bahamut or Nuke. Have Rosa attack with White, unless you need to be cured. Zeromus will use Virus, Meteo, Big Bang, and the Black Hole. Big Bang takes off a couple thousand HPs and then drains them for a while. The Black Hole makes all magics invalid. This means that if you caste a wall spell, it disappears. I think that is the correct effect. It does nothing to deter any attack or heal magics. Zeromus has approximately 105,000 hit points.

How do I get the Pan?

Once you have gone through the Sylvan cave and found yang sleeping, go to the overworld and talk to Yang's wife. She will give you the Pan. Then return to Yang and use it on him. Then you will receive the call magic Sylph. If you return to see Yang's wife after that, she will give you the spoon dagger, which can only be thrown by Edge. There is only one in the game, so save it for Zeromus. It takes 9999 damage.

How do I reach the four treasure chests below the town of Summoned Monsters?

To reach the chests, go to the first floor of the town. In the lower right area there is a hidden spot you must walk on. It looks like a normal piece of the floor, except it is outlined in brown. Step there and you will go to the room with the four chests. A note of caution: If you want to stay in the town after opening the chests, walk back to the tile you came in on. The other tile in the room warps you back outside.

Where is the Pink Tail?

On the moon, go to the Lunar Subteraen, Level 5. Walk all the way to the right, and there is a room with a chest on the right side. It is the only thing in the room, and there is a cabin inside the chest. Walk around the room for a while, and eventually you should bump into a Pink Puff. Defeat it and it may give you a Tail. BTW, the chances of finding a pink puff are 1 in 64, and the chances of him giving you a tail are also 1 in 64. You do the math. If you've got the time to kill, by all means, try it.
