Swordfish bonus round hint
Sent in by Richard
In the Swordfish bonus stage (when you get three golden sword fish),
go straight left to reach a secret room with a number 2. Go straight
right to reach a hidden room with the number 3. Both will turn all of
the swordfish small. The golden swordfish is available in a hidden room
directly downward, and the number 1 upward.
Skip the last half of Ropey Pampage
Sent in by Keoki
On Ropey Pampage their is a way to skip the last half of the level. When
you swinging on some ropes watch out for the part were you land on a
few tree tops. It should be one (or maybe two if I'm wrong) tall tree and
then two smaller trees right next to it, and an "O" block above the smaller
trees, then their should be an open area (which one would presume you
would die if you fell in) and then another tree top with a blue mucle guy
waiting for you. fall in the open area to be picked up by a barrel and shot
into a cave in an off screen wall. After completing the Hidden level full of
ropes you have to jump on, get the "N" block and then walk through the exit,
this will drop into another barrel which will shoot you up into yet another
barrel which will (once again) shoot you all the way across the last half of
the level. just kill the last blue muscle guy and the last rolly armodillo and
your done! (but first I would suggest going back after killing the armodillo
dropping into the first hole, you can see the very edge of a berrel fown their,
once you get to the secret level keep you eye on the life balloon and guess
which barrel its in to get an extra life, after wards it drops you back to the
same spot you were dropped before, only now its still raining and the blue
muscle guy and the armodillo are still alive.)
Unlimited lives
Sent in by Cody
In Manic Mincers, after the halfway barrel there is a krusha that is in
between two cliffs, jump to the other side without killing the krusha,
have Diddy as your main player and wait until krusha is in the corner
then jump on him with Diddy, if you time it right Diddy will repeatedly
jump on krusha's head if you hold the opposite direction than the
krusha. You will be awarded mega lives, within seconds you will be past 99.
11 extra lives in the first stage of the first level
Sent in by Nicholas VanDerMeer
You can get 11 more lives in the first stage of the first level. The first one
is where you come out of.Then go along the tree tops.If you made it all the
way, then you should have 10 lives. Then go get the rhino. Then when you get
to the end, go on top of the cave, and go as high as you can. You should be
off the screen. Then jump and jump off the rhino. You should hear a tire
sound. Then jump and you should land in a blast barrel. When you go in
the barrel, you should get a blue balloon. You should have 16 lives.
Hand slap
Sent in by Justin
To do hand slap with Donkey Kong, press Down till he ducks then you press Y.
Roll jump
Sent in by Peter Kaczmarczuk
To do a roll jump, roll of a cliff with either character (Diddy does it
better) and when you are falling, press "B" and you will be able to
jump farther and get lots of new things.
Jump off the cliff
Sent in by Princess Toadstool
This is a fun trick, but don't do it if you don't like to be killed.
Go to the level Tanked Up Trouble (in chimp caverns). Get to the star
barrel. Make sure your lead character is Diddy at this point. Remember
you can't change guys on the platform. then get the first two fuel tanks
after the star barrel, but ignore the next two. These should be the two
that you have to jump over bees using tires to get. Don't even try to get
those. After these tanks there will be a wooden platform up above.
Jump on it and stand at the very edge (like I said, make sure your
lead character is Diddy). If you did it right Diddy will throw his hat
off the ledge then jump off the cliff!
Warp in Vulture Culture
Sent in by ZJ
In the level Vulture Culture, run quickly until you pass the third
vulture. If you went fast enough, you should reach a warp barrel
that you jump in and you're transported to the end of the level.
Take Rambi into other levels
Sent in by David Wonn
If you want to, you must do tricks 1 and 2, and then do 3
Trick #1: Split up Donkey and Diddy and control both at the same time.
First, go into Oil Drum Alley, break the midway barrel, and exit. Now
go back into the level and go to the left until you see a blast barrel
that would normally take you up above the tall platform. Make sure
that you have both Donkey and Diddy, and have Donkey selected as
your main character. Now here is the tricky part: Try to stand on the
edge of the platform with the blast barrel, but try not to touch the
barrel. Face the left, so that Diddy is standing inside the barrel. Now
quickly switch your characters twice in a row. The timing of your
switch is critical and will require a lot of practice. If everything
is done right so far, you will see both characters blast out of the
barrel about one second apart from the other. If this happens, hold
right on the controller to make sure that both characters make it
over the tall platform.
Now you will notice that you can control BOTH Donkey and Diddy at
the same time! In other words, whatever you do to control Donkey
will also affect Diddy. For example, if you make Donkey jump, Diddy
will also jump at the same time. One thing you will notice is that
Diddy runs faster than Donkey, so if you want Donkey to catch up with
Diddy, press down to make both characters squat, then execute a
hand slap with the B button, and hold the controller diagonally
down in one direction. This will allow Donkey to stay in one spot
and Diddy to do a cartwheel in whatever direction you want. Be
careful not to let either character fall into a pit, or they both will
die. The really cool part is that Diddy is invincible to all the enemies!
A lot of weird things can occur as a result of this trick, so have fun
with this one! I should mention that it is possible to split up Diddy
and Donkey on other levels, such as Barrel Cannon Canyon, but if you
want to take Rambi into other levels, you must do it in Oil Drum
Alley as stated above.
Trick #2: Rambi weirdness
Once you have managed to accomplish the above trick, head to
the right with both characters until you find the crate with
Rambi inside. Make sure that you never let Donkey get hit, and
never swap characters with the A or Select button. If either of
those things happen, you'll have to start the trick all over again.
Now make sure that only Donkey goes down into the small area
where Rambi is, and try to keep Diddy on higher ground nearby. Now
make Donkey jump on Rambi, jump out of the area with the tire
and head right. Get rid of Manky Kong with either character.
Remember, you have two characters that can attack, and Diddy is
always invincible! If Diddy accidentally falls into the small area
with the tire, he will not be able to get out on his own. If this
happens, have Donkey and Rambi jump over that small area, and
then press A to send Rambi down to Diddy. Then make Diddy jump
on Rambi and jump as high as you can, and then press A to make him
jump off of Rambi's back. That will give you enough height to get out.
Here's another useful tip: If one character is riding Rambi and the
other isn't, you can press diagonally down on the controller to make
one character stay still, while the other one can move at his own
free will. If you accidentally make both characters jump on Rambi
at the same time, some really weird things will happen, and that is
a separate trick, which I'll explain later. That could mess up the
whole trick, so don't do that if you want to take Rambi into other areas.
Trick #3a: Take Rambi into other levels using the Donkey Kong method.
If you have managed to do everything above correctly, you are now ready
to take Rambi into some other levels! After you have taken Manky Kong
out, you can take Rambi into other areas in two ways: the Donkey method
and the Diddy method. The Donkey method is much easier, so I'll explain
it first. Make sure that Donkey is on Rambi and have Diddy nearby. Make
Diddy fall into the pit, but make sure that Donkey and Rambi do not fall.
You will lose a life and exit the level. Now go into any level that normally
has animal goodies in it, and take a look: Donkey is riding Rambi!! This
works on EVERY level that has an animal buddy inside, even the water
levels! Be careful in the water levels though, because if you fall through
the corals, you'll be completely stuck somewhere below the level. For
some unknown reason, Rambi can also be taken into Reptile Rumble even
though there is no animal buddy in that level!!
Fly on the Minecart Madness level
Sent in by Joshua
On the Minecart Madness level, there is a way to fly. Get both your guys
and jump in the minecart and wreck into another. When you get pushed out
press Y, B at the same time. When you get to the end jump into the minecart.
Glitches
Sent in by James Burmeister
In Oragatang Gang there is a real big glitch in the game. To make it work
get the Ostrige and the go all the way to the end of the level, jump up the
hill and press A and select a bunch or times. It will do all kinds of weird stuff.
In Orange-Utang-Gang, there is a big glitch in the game. If you get
Esspreso and go all the way to the end of the level, jump up on
the hill and press A two times. It will make Donkey Kong five
colors or just gray, some times it turns Esspreso brown!
Second mine cart stage trick
Sent in by SBG
At the end of the second mine cart stage, you can jump on the track
without the mine cart. First, get off the cart and go to the edge of
the platform next to the track. Then jump on the first tire (the one
under the one that leads to the bonus barrel). Don't go to the bonus
stage. Jump off the tire holding Y and B. When you fall right above
the track press B again while still holding Y. As long as you are
still holding Y, you can jump along the track by pressing B.
Hidden 3up balloon

99 lives
Sent in by FixingHole@aol.com
About that DIDDY code, I found out how to make those lives actually count.
First start the game die (use all lives) on purpose. When you get to
the screen with the monkey cranking the box hit DYDDY (Down,
Y, Down, Down, Y).
Then play till you get the desired amount of lives.
Then when finished hit Pause (start) then select.
Then start a game.
WOW you have 99 lives (if you choose).
Practice the Bonus games

Before the Game Select Screen appears, quickly press Down, Y, Down,
Down, Y (DYDDY) and you can practice the Bonus games.
Mine Cart Madness warp
Sent in by Brad
Go to the beginning of "Mine Cart Madness". Leap over the barrel
that blasts you to the cart and push left. A barrel will blast
you almost to the end. When you come out a Krash will come
flying at you. Watch it! Then you have beaten it.
Snow Barrel Blast warp
Sent in by Brad
In Snow Barrel Blast when you get to the longest series of
barrels be Donkey and fire out diagonally up and right. You will
be blasted into a secret barrel taking you to the end.
Different sounds
Sent in by Rob Hunsanger
At the menu screen, go down to "Erase". Press "Start".
Press Down, A, Right, B, Y, Down, A, Y "
When you hear that Goofie laugh, use the Select button to
scroll through the different sounds.
Note: Nintendo didn't quite find all of the bug's in the
game. So if you enter the code incorrectly their is a
chance you could loose your saved data, or cause the
whole thing to come to a screeching halt!
Hidden pile of bananas
Sent in by Erik Kuris
In Coral Copers when you reach the first Octopus circling a rock,
go down until you see a banana. Get the banana and keep going
down. You should find a pile of bananas.
Stop and Go Station warp

On Stop and Go Station, at the very beginning, go backwards all the
way. A hidden barrel will blast you all the way to the end.
Oil Drum Ally glitch
Sent in by Korey Kaczor
This is a glitch, A weird glitch. Go to Oil Drum Ally. Keep playing
until you to the barrel that shoots you upwards then go left slowly
until you fall (you must be by the barrel, not in it) then press A,
and A again. Different players do different stuff. Diddy Kong
freezes the game. Donkey Kong makes Diddy ahead of Donkey
Kong. Go to Rambi, make Donkey Kong get on Rambi. Weird
stuff starts to happen, like a blue Donkey Kong and two brown Rambis.
Ride a metal Donkey Kong
Sent in by Jon Verplaetse
If you have a game that is fairly new game, you can try this trick
for fun. In Jungle Hyjinks, go past the halfway point and get
Rambi the rino and go to the beginning of the game. Get the
steel keg and get both of the items over to the left so you can
see the wall. Take Donkey Kong and toss the barrel against the
wall, hop on Rambi, hold the "Y" button, and hit the barrel.
As long as you hold the "Y" button and don't hit anything
you will be riding a metal Donkey Kong!!!
Mine Cart Stage trick
Sent in by Paul Glasbrenner
This trick is just for fun. Go to the first Mine Cart Stage
and roll along all the way to the halfway star barrel. Then
die on purpose. Reenter the stage and hit Y and B at the
same time while holding right on the control pad. If you
did this correctly, you have jumped to the left of the
mine cart. If you hit Y and B again you jump in mid air.
Continue to hit Y and B and explore the stage at your
leisure.
13 level warp
"Sent in" by Jesse Smith
In Kongo Jungel, when you are between Coral Capers and Funky Flights,
tap the B button very quickly to skip 13 Levels up to Orang-Utan Ganin
Vine Valley. If it doesn't work, just try it again. I have only been
able to do it once, with Turbo.
Regain control from the other player
Go to the Game Select screen and highlight the "Erase Data" option.
Then press B, A, Down, B, Up, Down, Down, Y, and then A. If you have
entered the code correctly, all you'll need to do is press the Select
button to do a high five and regain control from the other player.
This code only works in the Two Player Team Mode.
50 lives
Do the following before starting a game to have 50 lives, go to the
Game Select screen and highlight the "Erase Data" option. Now press B,
A, R, R, A, L. Then select a file and start playing. Caution! If the
"Erase Game" optionis flashing after you've entered the code, then
the erase option is active and you'll erase whichever file you
select. Press Reset and try the code again.
Extra Lives
Select a saved file. Go into any area that you've completed and lose
all of your lives, then press any button to get off the "Game Over"
screen. As soon as you see Cranky Kong on the screen press, Down, Y,
Down, Down, Y. If done properly, you will go into an area where you
can pick up three of any of the animal statues so that you can load up
on extra lives in your choice of Bonus Stage. To keep the lives you
collect here and resume your saved game, simply press Start to pause,
then Select to exit this bonus area.
How do I get through the Snow Barrel Blast?
There is a trick to this level that isn't considered a hidden area,
but will help you if you're having trouble getting through the last
part of the level. Just to the right of the Golden Rhino Animal Token
at the end of the level, there is a long section of Barrel Cannons.
If you get into the third Barrel Cannon and wait until it's pointed
straight down, you can launch out of it and you'll drop down into a
secret cannon at the bottom of the screen. It will send you soaring
along the bottom, right to the end of the level!
What's the trick to getting through Poison Pond?
These Mincers cannot be defeated, but you can get some help from
Engarde, your fish buddy. Work your way to the half way point, then
go right until you see a shark. Take the passage down and go past the
Mincers here to find Engarde. Engarde can then help you finish the
level. This level can be defeated without Engarde, however, it's much
easier with his help.
How do I get up those Slipslide Ride Ropes?
Near the end of Slipslide Ride you'll come to a spot where there are
two purple ropes that you will need to climb up to find the Exit.
The tricky part is that purple ropes pull you down, not up. To get
past them you need to jump back and forth really quickly from rope to
rope. If you do this fast enough, you will work your way to the top
of the ropes.
How many levels are there?
There are 40 levels (33 regular and 7 boss), plus 68 hidden levels/areas.
How many extra lives can I get?
The games stops displaying how many lives you have after you get 99,
but it still keeps track for as long as you get them (i.e. you could
have 120 lives but the game will still just say that you have 99).
How many endings are there?
Two. The only difference is when Cranky Kong is talking to you, if
you found everything he'll congratulate you; if you didn't find
everything, he'll tell you that you missed some things.
Where are the special "2x" icons?
In each animal bonus area, there is a special extra-huge icon that
doubles the quantity of golden icons collected so far, making it
possible to get as many as eight extra lives in a single run.
These icons are located:
Expresso -- at the extreme right-hand end of the level, beyond
where the level appears to end. (Go to the third (last) area to
the right, stand on the last step on the right-hand wall, and
jump as high as possible AND flap once for extra height, to
get through an off-screen break in the wall.)
Enguarde -- in a hidden room at the bottom-center of the area. It
is straight down from Enguarde's starting position. (Go through
an apparently solid wall.)
Incidentally, there are three other hidden rooms in Enguarde's area.
(One in the top-center, straight up from Enguarde's starting position;
one at the left-center, straight left from Enguarde's starting position;
and one at the right-center, straight right from Enguarde's starting
position.) These rooms contain groups of the golden enguarde icons.
Rambi -- at the extreme right-hand end of the level, beyond where
the level appears to end. (Jump on top of the entrance door, stick
to the highest ledges while moving across the whole level
to the right, then jump over the right-hand cliff and head down
into the special area.)
Winky -- at the extreme left-hand end of the level, beyond where
the level appears to end. (Cross to the left-hand side, climbing
up to the top of the level, and jump over the left-hand wall.)
Are there any ways to bypass parts of some levels?
Barrel Cannon Canyon
To skip some of the first half of the level: Walk up above the
entrance (bounce off the "Kritter" to get up on top of the doorway)
and jump into the barrel cannon hidden at the extreme left. Jump
into the overhead barrel cannon of the tree that it deposits you on.
You'll be transported to the last barrel cannon sequence before
halfway point of the level.
To skip most of the second half of the level: just past the continue
barrel, use Diddy to bounce consecutively off a few purple "Kritter"s
(in the vicinity of the second bonus room) and then off a green one
while he is still standing on a small hill at the extreme right-hand
end of the land area. After hitting the green "Kritter", bounce left
and up as high as possible, to land on a nearby treetop. From there
it is possible to jump into a high (usually off-screen) "barrel cannon",
which blasts into a horizontal sequence that ends just short of the exit.
Mine Cart Carnage
To skip nearly the entire level: Jump over the barrel cannon that's
just beyond the entrance (the one which blasts you into the first
mine cart), and fall down as far to the left as possible (against the
cliffside). You'll fall into an off-screen barrel cannon that deposits
you in a mine cart shortly before the exit (there is one "Krash" cart
coming the other way that you'll have to jump).
Slipslide Ride
To skip about two thirds of the level: on the ledge above the entrance
(where the first bonus room is located) there is a barely-visible
on-screen barrel cannon above the entrance to the bonus room. (It is
hard to see because it is the same color as the background.) When you
jump into it, you will emerge a short distance before the end of the level.
Poison Pond
To skip a few sets of mincers: head straight to the left after picking
up the [N], past a single side-to-side mincer and then a "room" with
three rotating mincers. Go straight across this room and through the
left-hand wall. Upon entering a hidden room, go through its left-hand
wall to appear in the middle of the last vertical shaft before the exit.
Are there any "warps"?
There are three warps in Kongo Jungle. They occur at each point
where a path between levels bends. To activate a warp, press the "B"
just as the map screen's marker reaches a bend in the path.
Note that it must be a accomplished with a single press of the "B" button
at exactly the right time (I have not been able to get into the warp by
constantly and furiously pressing "B").
The only paths with bends in the whole game are:
1) between "Jungle Hijinks" and "Ropey Rampage" (warps to about
the middle of "Orang-utan Gang")
2) first bend between "Cranky's Cabin" and "Reptile Rumble"
(warps to the middle of "Ropey Rampage")
3) second bend between "Cranky's Cabin" and "Reptile Rumble"
(warps to just past the middle of "Orang-utan Gang")
If you successfully warp beyond the levels which you have completed
(e.g., you warp to "Orang-utan Gang" but have not yet reached that level
without the warp), the levels in between are NOT marked as completed.
Once you have warped, it is not possible to get back to the early levels
of the game -- except by winning the entire game, which returns you
to "Jungle Hijinks". (Since the intervening levels are not marked as
completed, the "flight path" from "Monkey Mines" to "Vine Valley" is
never made available.
Bosses
Very Gnawty is the huge beaver found at the end of the Kongo Jungle.
To defeat him, jump on his head five times. If you are having trouble
with him, make sure you are standing away from him after you jump on his
head. While he's stunned, you cannot hurt him, so give him a second to
get moving again.
Master Necky is the oversized vulture at the end of the Monkey Mines.
To defeat him, jump on his head five times. If you are having trouble
getting to him, jump on the tire at the bottom of the screen to gain
more height.
Queen B is the large bee at the end of the Vine Valley. To defeat the
bee, you have to hit her with Barrels five times. Make sure you are
hitting her when she is yellow, and avoiding her while she's red.
When she turns yellow again, fire away with another Barrel.
Really Gnawty is the large beaver at the end of the Gorilla Glacier.
To defeat Really Gnawty, you have to jump on his head five times.
When you first jump on his head, he'll do a really high leap, then
he'll start hopping around again. The more you jump on him, the more
high leaps he'll do. For example, after you jump on him three times,
he'll do three high leaps. You can't hurt him again until he's done
doing his high leaps. Continue the process of jumping on his head,
moving away, and jumping on his head again until you have defeated him.
Dumb Drum is the oil can found at the end of Kremkroc Industries, Inc.
This is one of the trickiest bosses in the game. The oil drum will
throw a series of enemies at you, two at a time. Defeat both of the
enemies by jumping or rolling through them, then avoid the oil drum as
it bounces onto the ground. The final set of bad guys he tosses at
you will be two Army armadillos that roll up into balls. Defeat these
creatures to finish off Boss Dumb Drum.
Master Necky Sr. is the vulture found at the end of the Chimp Caverns.
To defeat him, jump on the tire at the bottom of the screen to reach
the top of his head. You want to jump on him five times. You won't
hurt him when he's throwing nuts at you. Also, every time you jump on
his head, he will try to hit you with the same number of nuts. So, if
you've hit him three times, he will throw three nuts down at you.
King K. Rool is the lizard boss with the cape at the end of the game.
He is the most difficult to defeat because he uses a variety of
attacks. Defeating him may take lots of practice because it is mostly
timing. The trick to defeating him is to wait for him to throw his
crown, and jump on his head a total of ten times. Stand as far as you
can away from him to help you avoid his crown. When he runs at you,
jump over him and follow him to the other side of the ship. When he
makes cannon balls drop down, time your movements so you avoid getting
hit by them. This takes really good timing. When he starts jumping
back and forth across the deck, duck down to avoid getting hit by
him, and follow him to the edge of the ship. Keep doing this until he
is defeated.
