money, golf balls, and other various items.
Get lots of lives
Sent in by Nathan
When you enter the house to choose which level you go to at the
bottom left corner of the house, about 3 inches over is a secret
door. Press up in that general area and you will walk inside
the door. The next room you see does not look like much, but on
the second floor of this room about 3 inches from the left wall
is another door. Go in here. Now you have your choice from about
5 doors (you can see all of them) take a look around, there is a
way to get over 35 lives.
Hidden rooms and areas

Jump down every single "bottomless" pit you see - you'll most likely
find good stuff! This is one of the few games that doesn't kill you
instantly for falling onto or being hit by something, so explore away!
There's a really easy - and lucrative - way through the Hall of Chains.
Jump up and grab the first chain you see (it's right over your head!)
and climb up through the ceiling. Jump around and play with the
control pad until you disappear and wind up in the Golden Chain. Grab
the goodies and fall down the pit at the end to find yourself at the
end of the Hall.
After beating up the Wacky Scientist, stand where Pugsley was and press
down to wind up in the aptly named Pugsley's Pipe. You can collect $$$
as you fall through and even go around as many times as you like if you
miss!
There's lucre galore on the way to save Fester. After you make a
square of blocks appear at the end of the Armoury by hitting a switch,
jump onto said blocks and leap off high and to the left. You'll
disappear and wind up in the Trophy Room where there's $$$ and two
1-Ups. Go into the bear rug that doesn't spit small bears (it's in the
Lower Gallery) for more goodies. In the Library, jump up onto the "A"
block and then to the ledge in the wall; walk through the wall to get
some $$$ from The Top Shelf. In the Reading Room, press Up in front of
the "door" book to find a secret passage to the door on top of the
books and yet more hidden junk. In the Big Books room, take a sword
and then press Down on top of the "drop in" book for yet more
treasures. Jump and stab upwards with your sword to collect the 1-Up.
In the lower left corner of the front hall, press Up to enter Pugsley's
Den. There's another hidden door in the upper left of the Den that
leads to a mega stockpile (including over 20 1-Ups!)
In the Stone Steps area (on the way to Wednesday), look for a hole in
the ceiling above a crystal star trap. Grab a fez and fly through the
hole to reach Jester's Jewels. From there, you can head right into the
Crazy Crypt and continue on your way.
You can walk through a wall on the righthand side of Poison Ivy to
reach a Secret Garden with money and an invincibility shield. In the
Conservatory, press Down on a clay pot (in the pile of pots near the
beginning) for hidden lucre and walk left into a pillar (there's a pair
of sneakers floating next to it) for cash in the Privet.

How to start with more, or less lives and with different weapons and Areas.
Digits 3 and 4 control the number of lives; 1 and 2 tell which Areas
you've completed and which weapon, if any, you have. I'm still working
on an easy way to change digits 1 and 2.
Digit 5 is the "check" that unifies everything (I have no idea how it
works and usually do trial and error to make passwords).
Digit 3 is the ones digit of lives; digit 4 is the tens digit. Using
this code of characters for numbers, change digits 3 and 4 of your
password to the number of lives you want (make sure to write it
backwards; 70 lives would be 07 in the password):
Digit 3:
1 - #; 2 - K; 3 - S; 4 - 9; 5 - J; 6 - R; 7 - Y; 8 - Z; 9 - H; 0 - 1
Digit 4:
1 - K; 2 - 9; 3 - R; 4 - Z; 5 - 8; 6 - G; 7 - X; 8 - &; 9 - 6; 0 - 1
Keep entering the first four digits of your altered password with a
different fifth digit until it works. Passwords with 99 lives (even
those the game gives you) will not work. However, you can make a valid
100-lives password. Just enter "00" (11) and keep trying the "check"
digit until it works.
