Uncharted Waters: New Horizens

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by Dan Uncharted Water: New Horizens is one of the best games ever. Although it isn't the most realistic game it has at least good qualities in every single area. It takes a little while to learn, but once you do you will have been opened to, well... new horizon.

Graphics 7 out of 10

The graphics are above average. The ships look pretty good and almost 3D. The ships even bounce in the water. The characters looks good and in port it almost seems like a Zelda game.

Music and Sound 9 out of 10

The music tracks are perfect for a game like this. They used the Super NES to the max when it comes to music. The music matches the game completely and when sailing the non-peaceful seas the music will either calm you or scare you even more. The sounds are average.

Game Challenge 9 out of 10

It is a challenging game. It combines many good aspects of traveling in the 1500's and when confronted with a load of pirates or the mighty Spanish Navy, you will hope that your men are ready to fight. When looking for exotic villages watch out that you don't run out of food and water or you won't be sailing home.

Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10

This game takes a little while to learn and isn't the most action packed game. The fights with pirates seem like Final Fantasy battles mixed with "Battleship". It can get fun if you choose a life of piracy.

Replayability 9 out of 10

The replay value is not that great after you have beaten the game... 6 times. There are six different characters to choose from creating a huge replay value for a long time. It might take a few months to finish this game, using every character.

Game Design 9 out of 10

A game can not do much better here. Uncharted Waters: New Horizens is really well designed and you can tell when you dock into Lisbon and they are selling 10 different products. With investments and many different types of ships there is too many good things to say about it - there are even mermaids in the game. The only problem is there aren't quite enough random events and programmed events into the game.

Plot 9 out of 10

The plot of each of the characters is intertwined with every single other character. The Spanish Pirate is trying to kill the dukes son of Portugal - whose father was in the game before this one. There are about 10 or 20 side plots in the game.

Overall 9 out of 10

Can you say "Classic". "Uncharted Waters: New Horizens" shows up the first game by about 10 to 1. There are too many things that I have not been able to mention about this classic. You raise in fame and rank. As a character you have skill ranks and can have a bundle of mates, who you have to pay every month. You can get jobs at the Guild to raise you fame such as delivering a letter or defeating Pirates. There is so much more. Try to get this game if you can.
