Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers
Reviewed by Mbschrider@cs.com
Year: 1994
Created by Capcom
Description:The same basic storyline as the two other SNES Street
Fighters, but with a few twists. There are now 16 playable characters,
four of which are totally new!! Cammy, a cheeky brit with no past; Dee
Jay, a Jamaican kickboxer; Fei Long, a carbon copy of Bruce Lee; and
T.Hawk, a beefy, Zangief-like wrestler from Mexico. You must use the
character of your choice to defeat 12 challengers throughout the world.
Your first eight opponents are chosen at random, but the last four are
always the infamous Balrog, Vega, Sagat, and Bison.
Graphics: The opening demo of Ryu is downright amazing, and the new
characters look pretty darn good. However, the old character models of
the original twelve fighters are almost exactly the same, with the
exception of their portraits, which are really cool!! Rating: 8 out of 10
Sound: I can sum up this game's monster soundtrack in one word: DANG!
The BGM in this game is super stellar. The voices aren't too shabby,
either. However, some of the smack and kick sounds are kind of strange...
Rating: 10 out of 10
Difficulty: Now, I'm almost a master of this game (hey, I can beat level
6 without losing a battle), but it's freakin' hard on the higher levels!!
Also, with the SNES's very hard-to-use controller, pulling off some
special moves is pretty frustrating. It's a perfect challenge if you're
a fighter buff!! Rating: 10 out of 10
Replayability: Hands-down, the replay value here is excellent. There are
16 fighters, four playing modes, and eight skill levels. Heck, I've already
racked up at least 100 hours on this bad boy. Rating: 10 out of 10
Overall: 10 out of 10
This game is definitely worth the money. Well, hey, you can get it for
like seven dollars at some places. Still, though, get this game!!! Looking
to be a fighter buff? This is where to start!! Forget Mortal Kombat, by the way.
