R-Type 3: The Third Lightning
Reviewed by Anthony
R-Type 3, the sequel to the NES version, is back with better graphics
and more intense gameplay. Your on a mission to destroy the Bydo
Empire and return peace to the universe. You have to choose from
three different weapons to use for your mission, and collect power-ups
along the way to obtain different weapons.
Graphics 10 out of 10
Well, the graphics are amazing! They give intense feeling to the game
while the bosses are so detailed and nicely made. There were no flaws
or glitches in the graphics when I played it, but sometimes it's hard
to see the enemies behind the walls, but that's what the excitement of
it is, isn't it? The weapons you choose depends on what types of lasers
it can use. The weapons are cool looking and the lasers each have
their own special ability, and the backgrounds are nicely done too.
Music and Sound 8 out of 10
Each level has it's own music theme, and it's fun to finish a level and
find out what theme the next one will. Each boss has the same, but the
last boss has his own theme. Not much more to say here, except that
the sound and music isn't really what this game excels in.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
This game is kind of short having only about 7 levels, but that defiantly
doesn't take the challenge away! The levels get harder and harder as
you go along, and the bosses are extremely hard, except the first one.
You'll probably never beat any of the bosses on your first try, and the
final boss is near impossible.
Once you've spent hours and even days trying to beat this game, you'll
finally have beaten it, only to find out that you have a second and more
advanced mission! There are so many surprises in this game that take away
a ship, but those you just have to learn from.
Game Play-Fun 8 out of 10
This game is fun at first, and getting further and further and finding
new stuff and new areas is great, but it gets kind of frustrating replaying
the whole level again once you get a game over.
The most important thing, though, is that this game is fun. It's fun
spending hours and hours playing something that has no point? No, it's
fun playing a game with so many details, and bosses and levels, that
there's no end to the time you spend replaying the whole game, right after
almost beat the final boss, and getting hit by a teeny little laser.
You could just prove to yourself that you can get that far, and next
time you can get farther.
Frustration
The only frustrating thing that I mentioned earlier is dying and having
to start back at the beginning of the level. No frustration, otherwise.
Replayability 6 out of 10
There's not just one mission, there's two. So you'll have to play the
whole thing over and this time it's even harder. Not much fun in that.
Overall 9 out of 10
R-Type III is one of the best shooters I have ever played, and it's
the best out of the series. Don't waste your time when you see this;
buy it while it lasts.
