Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
Reviewed by (EniGmA)
Ninja Gaiden has finally appeared on the SNES but not in the form we'd expect.
Instead of adding a new chapter to the series, Tecmo has compiled the NES carts
on a single Super NES cart. Does it live up to the Ninja Gaiden name?
Graphics 6 out of 10
The graphics, first of all, have been barely touched. The characters have been redone
slightly, but it is barely noticeable. It almost looks like an exact port from the NES
carts with more shading and a little better color. However, it doesn't do for Ninja
Gaiden what Mario All stars did for Super Mario Bros.
Music and Sound 9 out of 10
The sounds have been redone and I must say, pretty well. The music is AWESOME
now, especially about halfway thru Ninja Gaiden 3. It has been redone with better
instruments, and the dumb songs have been tweaked with to sound better. My only
gripe is some sounds sound actually worse than the NES But there are very few of those.
Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10
This game is EXACTLY like the regular Ninja Gaidens, but very minor things have
been added/changed. For instance, in Ninja Gaiden 2, the lightning level has no lightning
and you can see your way thru the entire level unlike in the NES version. The problem
with the game is that it has HORRIBLE memory problems. Sometimes, if an enemy
jumps at you from a ledge above you and you kill it, the same enemy appears again and
jumps from the ledge above you. You can kill it over and over and over...and it will keep
reappearing. Now that wouldn't be too bad except for the fact that the ledge the enemy
keeps jumping off is the ledge You need to get on! How can you do that with infinite
enemies flying at you? That's what stinks.
Overall 7.5 out of 10
Overall, this could have been compiled much better. They also could have added the
Game Boy Ninja Gaiden and made it in color. However, they didn't. All they did was
improve the sound. If you don't own any Ninja Gaiden games, then buy this so you
can play all three. If you already have all three games for the NES, don't bother with
this one. The only reason you should buy this is to get every Ninja Gaiden game for
NES in a single shot, if you don't already have them.
