Mega Man X2
Reviewed by Danny Strasen
I have always been a big fan of the Mega Man series. I own nearly every Mega
Man game and with each new game Capcom keeps on delivering some of the
best 2D action games around. Mega Man X2 is one of Capcom's best.
Graphics 9 out of 10
Stangely enough in 1999 with all the great 3D graphics Mega Man X2 still
blows me away. The colors are so bright and rich and the enemies are very
detailed. One has to wonder when looking at this game whether Mega Man X2
is from a 32 or 64 bit system and not a 16 bit machine. It's that good!
Music and Sound 8 out of 10
The Mega Man series has always had great music and Mega Man X2 is no
different. Although there are less great songs in X2 then there were in
Mega Man X they are still great.
Game Challenge 8 out of 10
Mega Man X2 has just the right amount of difficulty. This is one of the
reasons I like Mega Man X2 so much. A newcomer in the game world can
come along and play Mega Man X2, have a few difficulties beating certain
areas, but never feel annoyed by the difficulty. While a more a more
experienced gamer can play through it no problem and have a blast doing it.
Game Play-Fun 8 out of 10
Mega Man X2 is a fun game to play. The controls rarely ever give you any
problems since the controls are placed in the perfect places. Although
charging your X-Buster, sliding, and jumping all at the same time can be
very hard to accomplish, you eventually get the hang of it. The levels are
also fun to play through. They are long and have interesting secrets
placed throughout.
Frustration
There is very little frustration in Mega Man X2. Capcom delivers just the
right amount of difficulty so it's not too easy or too hard. However
collecting some of the items in the game such as the 8 heart tanks to make
you stronger are very difficult to find.
Replayability 10 out of 10
The Mega Man series has always had lots of replay value and Mega Man X2
is the best of the bunch. Since the game is very non-linear you can go through
the game again trying to kill the bosses in a different order and with different
weapons. Better yet Mega Man X2 has 2 different endings depending on what
you do in the game. Although the 2 endings aren't very different it is still
fun to see them both.
Game Value 9 out of 10
Mega Man X2 was worth every penny I spent on it. The game has so many
things that are great about it that I can't think of any really negative aspects.
If you are looking for a game that is just plain fun then I suggest you pick up
a copy of Mega Man X2.
Overall 9.5 out of 10
Mega Man X2 is my second favorite Mega Man game, falling only to Mega Man 3,
which is one of my all time favorite games. I think one of Mega Man X2's best
characteristics is it's originality. Mega Man X2 adds new elements to a series
which seemed to deliver nothing new. So if you are tired of the same old Mega
Man game I think Mega Man X2 will be a great surprise.
