Mega Man 7

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by Maniac Z Remember back in the old days of gaming? How every time a good game came out there would be consecutive sequels until the game was considered "overplayed", and no one wanted more? Games like Mario, Donkey Kong, and Zelda just seemed to cry out for another game in the series. Still, only one game has been so loved, so wanted without even a hint of drastic change. A game so wanted that there have been more releases with this name on it then any other game in history. Of coarse by now you know that this game is Mega Man. Yep, the Blue Bomber is back, and he's giving the Super NES a wake up call. It's time to show everyone just what the Bomber is made of!!!

Graphics 9 out of 10

First off, Mega Man 7 is the absolute exception when it comes to previous Super NES or Super Famicom Mega Man titles. Rich, smooth colors added to the characters make game look, and feel like the television series. Many old characters are added to the game, but with the high quality 16-bit graphics, they are hardly recognizable! The Text bubble style of talking adds to the fun, and makes you feel like YOU are the one talking and arguing with Wily, Bass, Proto, and others. The password art and pause screens are exquisite, and add to the futuristic feel of the game. Background art is the best I've seen in a Super NES game of this genre in a loooonnnng time. Especially in Cloud Man's stage, and Shade Man's Stage. The Full moon was especially impressive. Overall, the graphics on Mega Man 7 are top-of-the-line, and I applaud Capcom's effort.

Music and Sound 8 out of 10

The music in this edition the Series is good, but some songs are better than others. Among the top themes are Bass' theme music, Shade man's tune, and Eddie's shop. The more annoying sounds would be included with most of the sound effects. Sounds like the springs in Spring Man's stage, and Mega Man's charging sound get really annoying after a few minutes. Still, the music here wasn't as bad as it could have been. Even with that in mind, I still give it an 8.

Game Challenge Variable out of 10

The challenge of the game depends on a few factors: First of all, it relies on haw good of a gamer you are when it comes to Mega man games. If you aren't considered a very good gamer, then you might want to get a Game Genie to help you out. If you have beaten other Mega Man games you may be able to say that it is 'moderately easy'. Even with that in place I have to say that I have played almost EVERY Mega man game available for the Nintendo systems (more specifically the Super NES), and I found the game to actually be kind of hard. Once you get to stages like Turbo Man, or Wily's fortress, you're going quite a few E-Tanks. The second factor depends on who's level you are fighting in. Personally, I found Cloud Man's stage to be the EASIEST, and Slash Man's to be a tie with Turbo Man's stage to be toughest (excluding Skull Fortress.). The bosses are easy if you know how to use your special weapons, and if you know how to slide. So, because of the many factors, I am forced to give the Game Challenge a variable rating. There is just too much to give it one straight # rating overall.

Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10

This has to be the MOST FUN I've had on a Super NES MM game in a loonng time!! The game gets more fun the longer you play it, and special items you uncover. For instance, if you were to play a game that had set what you could and couldn't do, it would get pretty boring and old really fast. Whereas in Mega Man 7, you can obtain the Rush adapter, Proto shield, Beat, and more! So every time you play, there could be a new feature that you found along your way to Skull Fortress. This is the kind of game that doesn't get too old too fast. Why? Because the storyline engulfed the player, and the fun factor rises the longer you play. Capcom did humanity good when they made this. It's so fun it should be illegal!!

Frustration

Not too much frustration, if you are a decent logical and scientific thinker. Example: The most frustration comes when you meet a Boss. If you are fighting someone like Spring Man, you have to think as if it were real. What (or how) do you damage a spring?? The answer, of coarse, would be to cut it. So, that would lead you to use Slash man's power to defeat Spring Man. This train of logic continues with each Boss, until you beat the game. Places like the 1st segment of Wily's fortress can be frustrating If you don't know how to use Rush or Beat. IT also helps to have a lot of lives and patience.

Replayability 9 out of 10

This is a game that is truly replayable. If you by any chance aren't into Mega Man, then it may get tiring after you beat it and get all of the items, plus unlock the Street Fighter Mode. But for the true Mega Man gamer it is a classic, that will most likely be played until you have to go out to Wallmart, (or where ever you go) and get a replacement system burnt yours up from playing Mega Man 7 too much. Overall, this game is a pretty good game for replay, because of the extra features and items. Also, the ability to mix up the order of levels is also nice for mixing the story a little bit.

Game Value 6 out of 10

Though the game is very good, the current price for Mega Man 7 used is more than some brand new games on newer systems. The average price for the game runs at around $50.00 used. I haven't been able to find the game new, because Capcom, the games' developer, quit making the game. I would have to say that because of how old the game is, the target price SHOULD be around 20 bucks. But, because of the quantity of games the game is considerably more. If you were to get the urge to buy this game, you should probably do it now, because there aren't many copies left, but you may be kicking yourself in a few years because the price might drop 10 or 20 bucks. The decision is up to you, but I personally would wait at least a few months.

Overall 10 out of 10

Overall, Mega Man 7 is the BEST Mega Man game (not to be confused with the 'X' series.) that I have ever played . The graphics are good, sound is.....unique, and everything else looked fine to me. Whether you are a die hared Mega Man fan, or just curious at all of the hype, your sure to like the fun, exciting world of Mega Man 7 on Super NES!
