Harvest Moon
Reviewed by Tim Martin
Harvest Moon is the ultimate farm simulation game that lets you decide
the game. Your parents leave the farm in your hands and give you two
and a half years to save the farm and turn it into a successful one. In
Harvest Moon you farm, raise animals, get married, and can even have
a kid! Through hard work and numerous hours of fun you can go from a
farm full of weeds and tree stumps to a successful and money- making
farm full of fields full of crops and barns full of animals!
Graphics 8 out of 10
The graphics in Harvest Moon are plain and easy to see. The crops and
animals are all well drawn and are very neat and clear. The graphics are
about average for a Super NES game, but they get the job done.
Music and Sound 10 out of 10
This may be a little high, because if you play the game for an extended
amount of time the music gets annoying and repetitive, but for the
most part the music is fairly entertaining and sets the mood well. There
is different music for every different scene. For the most part, this
music is great.
Game Challenge 7 out of 10
Harvest Moon is a game that is tough to calculate in difficulty. If you
want to make the game hard you can, but if you wanna sleep walk through
the game if can be easy. You can make the game hard if you want to farm,
tend to animals, and have a wife. There is only a certain amount of hours
in a day and you must be in by a certain time to keep your wife happy.
Game Play-Fun 9 out of 10
This game is very fun. For anyone who lives nowhere remotely close to
a rural area this is an ultimate game to own to fulfil your farming calls.
What makes this game fun is that you actually plant your crops, you actually
water your crops, and you actually pick your crops. Everything you accomplish
is on your own. You get more satisfaction knowing that you did it all and
just didn't click a button to make it happen.
Rumble Pak 8 out of 10
Harvest Moon is unique because of the constrictions you must obey. Every
action you do, like picking a plant or plowing a square of field you lose a
certain amount of energy points. This wouldn't be so hard if there was a
meter that you could look off of, but there isn't one, so you have to
calculate the amount of energy you have left from little signs from your
farmer. Every button on the controller has it's own action and the gameplay,
like the rest of the game is crisp, and easy to learn.
Frustration
This game gets very frustrating if you don't wanna play the game. This is
extremely long. You have to play 250 days which last about ten to fifteen
minutes each depending on what you do. That multiplies to be about sixty
hours. The game can get very repetitive and can get boring. As far as the
game getting frustrating because you can't win, there isn't much of that.
This game is long and if you are not dedicated to playing the game, you
probably will quit.
Replayability 10 out of 10
There are so many ways to play Harvest Moon. You can play and play for
money, you can play and play to have a wonderful family life, or you can
play just to have fun. There are so many ways to play this game. There
may be only a couple of endings, but the way you get there is the fun. The
Replay factor is great. You can beat this game numerous times and still
be coming back for more.
Game Value 8 out of 10
Pending on how much you can get this game for, is what the game value is.
If you can get the game for around 30 to 35 dollars consider that a deal. If
you have to pay anymore for that, you may be a tad disappointed. I mean,
if you pay fifty dollars for the game, you might not like it because of how
long it is. You should rent the game first and then decide if you wanna buy
the game. I think if you like the game fifty dollars then really isn't so bad.
I've seen the game for around sixty dollars brand new, but i have seen the
game used for only around twenty, so if you look you should be able to
find a good deal.
Features 6 out of 10
There are many cool features in this game. You can go to many festivals
and pick berries and cut down trees late into the night. Besides just
farming there is a lot of stuff to do.
Ending 5 out of 10
The ending is nothing to complain about, but it is not great. I don't wanna
spoil the ending so I won't go in depth. They basically just give you some
ratings and happiness scores.
Overall 90 out of 100
Harvest Moon is a great game and you should play it.
