Reviewed by Clint You are Cecil, the leader of the Barons. You will soon undertake a journey with a friend named Kain against the antagonist named Golbez. You will meet several people including a wizard who will slowly remember the ultimate spell Meteor, a karate fighter who needs your help defending his home town, a technician who has now entered Final Fantasy lore, a mysterious girl with powers to summon monsters at her will, the four elementals, a bard from a destroyed palace, and a mysterious man named Namingway who resides everywhere in the world. You will have to deal with Kain's betrayal, the truth of your past, the giant step from knighthood to becoming a paladin, the secret underground world, the red giant who can only be stopped by an alliance between all of the towns of the world, and inevitably the end of the world.

Graphics 6 out of 10

For the time again, cool. This was the fourth game I bought for my Super Nintendo, so you have to think about the standards those days. Nice detail on the land, monsters, battle scenes, and characters, but that is about it.

Music and Sound 6 out of 10

Music was fantastic, sound was okay. One of those type games where you can actually hum songs from it a long time later. In fact, I have seen places where you can download the songs from the game even today.

Game Challenge 8 out of 10

Very challenging RPG. RPG's are usually alike. They are easy for a while, then, they become difficult and that's when you must stop and power-up, then it becomes easy again. Still, there some battles that will remain difficult, like the three sorceresses who will be the first people to cast virus on you, and Leviathan and the queen, she will cure both of them every turn which is awkward if you haven't learned certain spells yet.

Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10

I am a semi-fan of RPG's. I like the stories more than actually playing them, but this one was still cool. It's tough to judge this for RPG's.

Frustration

As in any RPG, you must power-up. This is frustrating because of repition of fighting over and over again with no plot unfolding.

Replayability 7 out of 10

Takes some time, but you will eventually play through any beaten RPG at least once more.

Game Value 8 out of 10

If you like RPG's with great stories and don't mind the Nostalgia of it, this is for you!

Story 9 out of 10

Very well thought out story. In my opinion, better than any of the other Final Fantasy's except 7. This one did not have any just plain silly moments in it. It remained serious and cool all the way through. It didn't have a an octopus that ran when you drew it's picture or a evil phantom train who you must while floating in front of it (Final Fantasy 3).

Sequel 10 out of 10

This is a special category just for this game. There is absolutely no let down from Final Fantasy 1 to the sequel. The coolest moment of the entire saga Final Fantasies was when I first played Final Fantasy 2. In the first game, you play forever, walking around, canoeing, sailing fighting all the time, and eventually, you begin to hear rumors of a 'Floater'. It is a magical rock that is used to make ships float (airships). After you conquer the ice cave and get to the desert, you finally see this contraption and begin flying everywhere. When you begin Final Fantasy 2, the first scene shows three airships flying by a well trained army. This was cool because it was like, after the first game, a few years later the continuation of the story begins. This was also when I realized there would be many many more Final Fantasies. Easily, one of the best sequels to date.

Overall 8 out of 10

My second favorite RPG of all time. If I ever did a top twenty chart, this game would be on it.
