Earthworm Jim
Reviewed by Clint
A game that stands out from all the others only on its oddness. You are
an earthworm who, by chance, crawled into a strange suit that allows
you to become the size of a human and fight against the forces of evil.
Shiny also did the fantastic PC game MDK. This game would be a great
weekend rental to any gamer.
Graphics 6 out of 10
Nice graphics with a decent background foreground separation. The
graphics fit this game very well with its semi comic book feel.
Music and Sound 9 out of 10
Great sound effects and music. The guns, screams, and explosions all
sound incredible. The music is also nothing to forget. I actually saw
a special on TV a little while ago about the music engineer who
worked on this game and his fantastic taste for game music. Perfect
music for the scenarios you are in during the game.
Game Challenge 8 out of 10
This game doesn't come easily to anyone. This game does well at
starting out easy, but becoming progressively harder as you continue.
Easy to start, hard to master.
Game Play-Fun 8 out of 10
Very fun game, mostly because of its humor. It is a very interesting
game with parodies of other games and of some movies also. The
amount of references made in the game are a lot like Duke Nukem's
references. One part of the game has you being chased in the dark by
two giant pair of eyes. You never see what exactly that thing is.
Frustration
The challenge can get to you eventually. There is nothing more frustrating
than playing through the game and dying on the last level and having to
begin all over again, but this is true for any game.
Replayability 8 out of 10
A game very easy to pick up and start over again. The game can move very
quickly and the constant action make this fun every time you play it.
Game Value 6 out of 10
I don't know, it may not be good enough to buy. Although, a clear choice
to rent. I am pretty conservative in my money spending right now, so I
am kind of biased.
Ending 3 out of 10
Do you remember Eyedol's ending in Killer Instinct? Where his mother
came up to him and explained how he is really her child because of his
bracelets. He then decides no and smashes her into the ground. I was
very impressed and glad that someone else thought that Blanka's ending
from Street Fighter was cheesy and made a parody of it. Some endings
can make the game. This one did not. The ending was very disappointing.
It was based all on one pretty dumb joke. But, that only took a little
away from the entire game experience.
Overall 7 out of 10
A renter to anyone and some people will enjoy it enough to buy. Check it
out if you haven't, but don't go to Toy's R Us until you try it.
