Donkey Kong Country
Reviewed by Clint
Donkey Kong Country, the original, was truly incredible. Made by
one of the best, if not the best, game company ever, Rare. This game
had incredible graphics, sound, and humor for its time.
Graphics 9 out of 10
For the time once again, this game was truly breath-taking. Perfect
coloration with nice shadowing (which resemble Killer Instinct) and
great animation for characters. What would you expect? I mean, it's
Rare. Killer Instinct, Cruisn' USA, Goldeneye, they all have above
average graphics.
Music and Sound 9 out of 10
Once again, DKC really excels in a category. One of the very few
games I actually considered buying the theme music CD. The songs
in the game are fantastic. Very few games I have played actually do
a good job on music usage, but this one does real well.
Game Challenge 5 out of 10
Challenge was decent. Not too impossible though. In fact, this game
came out a few weeks before my birthday and I asked for it, however
I couldn't wait that long and rented it one Saturday. By that afternoon,
I was watching the credits. I have known a few people who took a lot
longer to finish the game though. Also, finding all of the secrets can
be a grueling task and that is why it deserves a 5 and not a 2.
Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10
This game should be at least tried if not bought by every Nintendo
gamer. It really exercised what the Super Nintendo was capable of.
Just try it and you will pleasantly surprised.
Frustration
You will come across a few levels, especially the ones with pin point
jumps, where you will die over and over and over again. This is extremely
frustrating, but, you will eventually overcome it.
Replayability 5 out of 10
The awe-inspiring effects of the game will only impress you once.
Compared with new N64 games, I hardly ever find myself even looking
at this game. But, since it was such an incredible game, a lot of people
probably still enjoy it.
Game Value 8 out of 10
I have not idea what they are charging for this game now days. I say if
you can find it for about $30 and you haven't even tried it, go for it!
Ending 8 out of 10
I always play through the games for one reason, to see the endings. DKC
had a very nice one. This is where the majority of the humor is. It also
has a nice little fight between the two main characters which is fun to
watch. This is one of the rare (catch the pun) game endings I remember.
Overall 8 out of 10
Haven't played it yet? WHO ARE YOU!? TRY IT!!!
