Donkey Kong Country
Reviewed by Brad Herr ZERO
The entire Donkey Kong Country series is great, perhaps the best
of all time but over all, the first has got to be, not only the best of
the series, but my favorite video game of all time. I think the plot
is a good one and the secrets that game holds are awesome.
Graphics 20 out of 20
There is nowhere I could possibly stop here. The graphics most likely
pioneered the way for many of the great games we have today. Unlike
it's following two games, DKC is a game that really stands out among
the rest. The other two are great, but have a more cartoony look to them.
DKC is a game that really looks....great. This game is just so good there's
no way to put other than great.
Music and Sound 10 out of 10
The sweet music of two primates running around, jumping on the heads
of alligators and dodging huge bees. This music is so cool, I hooked my
TV up to my dads stereo, and accessed the music test mode, and made a
recording to listen to in the car. As for the sound, it may not sound
exactly like a monkey screaming, but the Kongs aren't your average
monkeys now, are they?
Game Challenge 5 out of 5
I'd have to give this category a low possible # because there are no
difficulty settings. It is very hard in some spots, but then it works
vice-versa. My little brother and I are different in that, I am absolutely
great at this game, and he basically is the worst player I have ever
come across. But working together, we were able to beat the game
in less than three hours.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
This game is very fun to play, merely because of all the things above.
You got to figure, with perfect scores in all of the above, this game
has to be fun. And it is. Another thing that makes it quite fun is the
levels. They are very complex, and after you've finished one, you can
go back and explore for minor details that you missed before.
Frustration
This game can get very frustrating, because the levels are very long.
Making it to the end and dying is not much fun at all, but then dying
never is, is it?
Replayability 10 out of 10
This is a very great game indeed. You may even find yourself doing
older levels while you're still playing to beat it! Like I said above
you can go back and look for minor details, like in the background, or
you can explore somewhere you never have. Let me warn you will
probably die by exploring over the side of a cliff.
Game Value 10 out of 10
I got DKC the month it came out, so I don't know how much it goes
for, but I can guarantee, if it's under 70 bucks, it's worth it.
Complexity 10 out of 10
This is a very complex game, but it ends when you least expect it to.
Going back and finding bonuses is almost impossible without a players guide.
Overall 75 out of 75
My conclusion is the same as above. This game blows your mind and all
other video games right out of the water. Great game, period.
