Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble

Reviewed by VGW Man Every single Donkey Kong game was excellent. This game is no exception. How can anyone beat this game? I have no idea! Until that happens, stick with this review.

Graphics 10 out of 10

The ACM technology keeps on getting better! The graphics are rich with textures and 3-D animations. There is no game with the possible exception of Yoshi's Island for the SNES that beats this game in graphics, or any other category.

Music and Sound 10 out of 10

Music is Rare's/Nintendo's specialty, and this is not an exception. The music changes for each kind of stage. In other words, any stages in factories will be the same. Same for the other places, yet in one of the snow areas is different because you are in a vehicle. Some of Cranky's grunts aren't in there, but he isn't the advise guy anymore. Find out about him later in this review.

Game Challenge 10 out of 10

This game follows the same footsteps as DKC 2, but adds extra effects. There is an extra bonus level--collecting green bananas. Fresh animals are here, while Enguarde and Squawks are the only returning animal friends in this game. K. Rool has a new name--Baron K. Roolenstein, and he has extra power this time. Also, there is a twist--he captured someone which you have to rescue to actually win the game! Who, or should I say what, is it? Here is a hint: The bears have about two, while the other thirteen or so are stuck in the caves. Find them, and you'll find your answer.

Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10

This game has great control again. Kiddy Kong replaces Diddy, and Dixie is still with Kiddy. If you throw Kiddy upwards, he'll land on the ground, maybe uncovering something. If Dixie gets airborne, new levels can be reached. One of the new faces, Ellie the Elephant, has a vacuum move for barrels and could put water in his trunk, waiting to be "launched" out of his trunk. The other animals have their trademark moves.

Frustration

Do I have to say this again? NO FRUSTRATION!

Replayability 10 out of 10

This game requires a lot of searching in the Northern Krem- misphere to find everything. The main island itself can be explored in four vehicles, allowing you to find everything within sight. Each world has at least one secret that must be found to get a perfect score, and with an excellent code system, this game requires at least a half a year to beat, unless you use a strategy guide (CHEATERS!).

Game Value 9.5 out of 10

Do I have to say this again? No money, no value!

Kong Family and abilities 10 out of 10

Again, I'm using this unusual category. Dixie still has her ponytail move, while Kiddy can do everything Donkey can do. Funky doesn't let you leave a world--you can do that automatically. Instead, he let's you select your vehicle for exploring. Swanky has another contest which you must pay for in bear coins, but not for extra lives. You challenge Cranky (HUH?) in one of three throwing games, which actually prepares you for the K3 boss, so practice. Wringly left the school, and now plays Super Mario 64 for the N64, exercises, or sleeps. She lets you save for free, and watches over some animals. One, or actually about sixteen, characters that aren't Kongs are the Brothers Bear, which help you get through. They also charge some items for the bear coins, except Boomer, which uses Bonus Coins for paying. Everyone, Kong or Bear, has unique styles.
