Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble

Get the game at Amazon.com!

Reviewed by Paul Pace Donkey Kong Country. Ahh, the last of a dying line of excellent video games. This game thrills and chills with a surprising variety of gameplay, proving that the Kongs never get old (except maybe cranky). The only way to experience this game is to rent it but here is a consist overview from one who mastered the game, me!

Graphics 9.7 out of 10

The Graphics in this game are as good as it gets on Super NES. Beutiful waterfalls, fat babies, twirling hair, laser beams flying, it becomes a symphonic masterpiece of gamedoom. In lamens terms, it looks good!!! These graphics are unmatched by any game. The closest comer is DKC2. I know there are N64 games with better graphics but I'm talking about Super NES.

Music and Sound 8.5 out of 10

The Music is wonderful!!(and I would know because I'm in Lee High Marching Band) To hear is to believe. In many stages, the music will start low and get more intense. It doesn't just sit there, it really immerses you in the game. To me it is much more fulfilling than hearing rap or rock (but then again I'm just a nerd). It is worth listening to on a CD. I haven't found any midi's yet, however. Your eyes will burn from the incredible graphics, and your ears will delight in spectacular music and sound.

Game Challenge 5 out of 10

Unfortunately, the game is not very challenging. I rented the game for two days. By the second day, I beat it. By the third day (I kept it overdue) I beat it with 103%. The challenge is apparent though. It was tough, kind of. One reason I could beat it so easily is because I'm an excellent gamer. For the average gamer, it might take 2 or 3 weeks. The game is so addictive that you might find yourself staying up and beating it sooner.

Game Play-Fun 9.9 out of 10

The game was incredibly fun. It is addictive, immersive, and puzzling. The stages get progressively more difficult, and the challenge of finding bonus stages is even harder. The game play includes a wide variety. For example: In one stage you'll be racing through the game on a bobsled, and on another you may be an elephant jumping across barrels. However, the main game play takes place as Dixie and Kiddy Kong.

Frustration

My frustration with the game was that it didn't take long to beat. I beat the game in three days with 103%. It would be better if many of the stages were not so straight forward or quick. While it's puzzles can keep your mind ticking, you eventually just become a zombie in front of the TV. My suggestion: Rent before you buy. If it is incredibly hard for you, and you have less than 50% when you return it, you should probably buy.

Replayability 7 out of 10

The replayability of this game is the difficulty to achieve 103%. After you do this, there is not replay value except to fight the bosses, which is fun to do, or watch the ending to the game.

Overall 7.5 out of 10

In conclusion, I enjoyed this game, and would rent it again. However, I do not believe that I would buy the game because it was so easy for me to beat.
