Donkey Kong Country 3
Reviewed by Julie
Donkey Kong Country, the beginning of the fun for Super NES. Then
came the second one, a bit more challenging, but a bit more fun,
then came the latest, yet greatest one of them all! With better
graphics, a new star player, new levels to conquer, a new land
to explore, and much more! Being published in 1996, receiving a
players choice award, I say it may be the greatest game for Super
NES money can buy! All the detail put into this game, I think it is
sort of unbelievable, but hey! It's fun! For those who seek a fun
game, with adventure, and challenge, hey! this game is for you!

Graphics 10 out of 10
The graphics, everything counts in this game, from the background
3D objects to the details on Dixie's face! To make the game realistic,
it requires a lot of hard work, and graphics! I mean, graphics makes
the game funner, maybe more in value, and it makes it harder, for
example, if you take the seaweed from the bottom of Lake Orangutanga,
put it in water with ripples in it, and then put a bonus barrel behind it,
I think it would be hard to see, including if it was under a dock! Now
you see, but just to make it sound even better, take a look at Yoshi,
then take a look at Squitter the Spider, he has eight legs, with tennis
shoes on the feet! His furry body has black stripes that are on top of a
bright orange, and his abilities are pretty graphical too! Shooting webs,
they look pretty real to me! Yoshi, ya, some say he is cute, and his tongue
comes in handy, when he uses it to get bad guys, and get coins, but
could that compare to Squitter? I don't think so!
Music and Sound 10 out of 10
The music, what do I have to say about it? Well, it's got the right
sounds, it's got rhythm, and it's got a good beat too! The music plays
just right for the environment that Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong are
playing through. For example, for the jungle levels, you can hear the
bongo drums in the music, and you can also hear monkeys too! And in a
particular level, Fireball Frenzy, the hard rock suits the level just
right. Having the right music is important, I don't think the game
would get a players choice award if the game had bad music, or even
no music at all! Even when I'm playing Donkey Kong Country 3, I pause
the game and listen to the music, and maybe after I've beaten the game,
I go back into levels with music I like, and just listen to it! I think no
music could be better, and if there is, prove me wrong!
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
Well, if you aren't an expert, and you have never played any of the
Donkey Kong Country games, this game will probably be a challenge
for you, like when I first played it, I really didn't know what to do,
but I luckily read the Player's Guide, which helped a lot. The game
requires a lot of thinking, so, in this game, you have to use your mind,
for thinking how to use things, how to get places, and for thinking up a
place where a secret cave might be, which hold a magical bird, called
a Banana Bird, which are required for beating the game. The challenge
for thinking up where those bonus barrels are may take a while to
think up, you must be creative, by thinking how you are going to get
to the bonus barrel, or even finding it! But this game is defiantly a challenge.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
This game is very fun, with the music, the graphics, and all the
abilities Dixie and Kiddy have, there should be plenty of things to
do! You get to swim, drive a helicopter, (the Gyrocopter) drive a
motorboat, a hover boat, an even a ski boat thing! Finding all of the
hidden caves, cracking those codes, there is a lot of fun involved in
just one level! Non-stop fun is in this game. A guaranteed two thumbs
up in game play-fun here, don't miss out!
Frustration
Frustration, a small problem in this game, it can get frustrating,
not finding that last bonus barrel in the game, not finding that last
cave you need in order to rescue the big Banana Bird, to beat the game,
you keep dieing on a particular level that just drives you nuts, so you
just put the game away and forget about it. Yeah, all of that stuff can
get you pretty upset, but don't give up! That last bonus barrel will
show up! You'll beat that level you have been trying to be at for who
knows how long. Just remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Replayability 9 out of 10
After you have beaten the game, found all of the secrets, beaten all
of the levels, found all of the caves, and you practically know where
everything is by heart, the game gets kind of old, and you end up just
putting it away for a while, but if you put that game away for long
enough, you will lose your touch, not play as good as you use to, but
that is a good thing! Then you will be determined to beat your old score,
and you will end up playing the game again. The thing I did after I
beat the game for the fifth time, I just cruised around in the boats,
went through my favorite levels, stayed clear away from the levels
I despised, and jammed to the good rhythm of the music, that's what
I did! Once you have beaten the game, it does get old, and you might end
up selling it, just remember, it's Donkey Kong Country 3, and it is fun
no matter what!
Game Value 10 out of 10
I payed forty dollars and fifty cents for that game, I think it
was worth it, it won a players choice award, it has great graphics,
and by reading the back of the case, it sounds good to me! As you go
on the game, it gradually gets more difficult, and funner, and that is
what makes it so good! I think that is good because if the game was
easy all the way through, you would beat it in no time, and if it was
hard all the way through, you would get so frustrated that you might
sell it, so, I say this game is defiantly worth the price.
The Kremlings and Baddies 9 out of 10
The characters are very cool, with their own individual abilities,
like Kopter, he is able to fly like a helicopter, and Bristles, the
hedgehog, he is able to roll constantly, invincible. If you are a Donkey
Kong Country lover, you might know why I gave the Baddies a 9 out of
10. Well if you don't, I'll tell you why. If you look at the first two Donkey
Kong Country games, you will notice the bees aren't machines, unlike in
Donkey Kong Country 3, and that bothers me. I like the natural bees, and
I think they altered the characters a little bit too much.
The Stars 10 out of 10
First, Dixie Kong. I really like this character, her amazing ability to
fly with her helicopter spin, she can jump farther than usual. And she
can run fast, which I like. (I can't stand walking, I have to run!) Kiddy
Kong, Dixie's cousin, has the ability to 'bounce' off of water, and avoid
the obstacles below. Kiddy Kong can pick up Dixie, and through her in hard
to get places, Dixie can also pick up Kiddy, but he is sort of heavy for her.
If Dixie picks up Kiddy, and throws him at a wall, he will roll back at her,
and if she jumps on him while he is still rolling, she can ride on him!
Overall 10 out of 10
My conclusion is that this is a great game, with great characters,
great new Kremlings and Baddies, a new bad guy, a new world to
explore, with great new music, with more fun levels than ever before,
including better graphics, I say this game could very well be the best
game for Super NES yet, of course, along with the other two
Donkey Kong Country games.
