Graphics 5 out of 10
The graphics leave much to be desired but once you lock horns
with an evil Mongolian warmonger who is allied with the French,
graphics become the least of your worries. Also there is nothing
more satisfying than hearing the war cry of a freshly built
nuclear arsenal ruthlessly raining down on an unforboding enemy.
Music and Sound 4 out of 10
The same 4 tracks keep repeating over and over, and you only
get a change of music once per era. If it wasn't for the awesome
nuclear missile sound I would have given it a two.
Game Challenge 8 out of 10
Depending on which skill level you chose-chieftain, warlord, prince,
king, and empower (1-5 respectively), the challenge gets harder.
However the simple dynamics of the computer allow it to think up
little more strategy than BUILD UNIT AND SEND TO NEAREST THREAT.
Nothing a human mind can't conquer.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
Personally there is nothing more rewarding than to see a fledgling
civilization rise from a single settler and conquer the world with the
power of the atom. Then again it is similarly rewarding to see your
civilization reach the stars with a well crafted shuttle.
Frustration
The computer has many unfair advantages that you don't such as:
1) Any unit of the computer can be a diplomat.
2) The computer players are "given" wonders.
3) The computer can produce an endless supply of settlers.
Replayability 10 out of 10
A different world every time, and always the situation where
you stop and think "wow I did it!"or "oh no, I lost." Either way you
will be thoroughly surprised every time.
Game Value 10 out of 10
When this game first came out it was 70.00. Now you can get
it for 20.00. One things for sure when you first land your civ
in the in-game anals of history, this game will surely join your
anals of gaming classics.
Overall 9 out of 10
This game will have its moments were you want to take a sledge
to it and it will have its times when you think that this game is
simply well crafted and wonderful. While the graphics and sound
could use some tweaking I guarantee that this game will keep you
up late into the night with that one thought ringing ever-so clearly
"one more turn...."
