Civilization
Reviewed by AshM-21
Civilization is a simulator designed to let you take a role in building the
ultimate civilization. The game itself has not one particular goal but many,
which you can decide to achieve. For example One- you can eliminate all
competing civilizations Two- within a certain span of time your country
can launch a space ship to another planet (This I feel is the ultimate goal)
or Three- you can build the happiest and most productive Civ.
BTW- This game is compatible with the Super NES mouse (Which I highly
recommend).
Graphics 6 out of 10
If you have played the original Civ for the old 286/386 computers you will
notice that there was no real work done to enhance the graphics. Compared
to some of the other Super NES sim's this game lack's the overall quality.
Each unit can easily be distinguished but they are a bit blocky and not overly
attractive. I would have to describe the graphics are functional with a little
flair thrown in occasionally.
Music and Sound 4 out of 10
Unfortunately this is another department that Civilization does poorly in.
Sound effects a practically non-existent and the background music only
changes about 4 times during the whole game. I recommend turn the volume
down and putting on a good CD.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
Ah yes. This is where the appeal of the game begins to show. You may
choose a difficulty level ranging between chieftan and emperor and have
at it. At the lower settings keeping your people happy is a minor task
and competing countries are usually of little problem. But watch out
at the higher settings. War becomes cut throat and a peace treaty means
nothing to an aggressive country. Keeping your citizens productive and
happy becomes a real challenge. Another factor that determines the
challenge is what you want to accomplish. If you simply want to conquer
the world and wipe out every one else, this can be easily accomplished, but
if you choose a different goal you may run into a real challenge dealing with
the other countries.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
I don't know if fun is the exact way to describe it but once you've started
you can kiss any social life you had goodbye. While at times repetitive the
thrill of the little accomplishments through the game will keep you playing.
Frustration
FRUSTRATION? Only on the higher settings. You must remember that so many
factors influence your country and this can be a chore to keep track of. But
don't worry. Just sit back, relax, and grab a controller.
Replayability 10 out of 10
The game is never the same way twice. Each country (France, American,
Egyptian, etc) Has it's own unique traits and you can even customize the
world. With some many choices in the game, (Which would take forever to
list) You will never become bored.
Game Value 10 out of 10
I purchased Civilization for 25 dollars and I have seen it go for 59. I feel
that 60 or less is a deal. This is a classic game that was translated very
well. And if you are like me and will never part with your Super NES than
this is one game that is a must in any collection.
Overall 10 out of 10
Overall? Try it then buy it. I can praise this game till my fingers fall off but
the only person that matters is you the buyer. If you like it you will love it.
If you don't than don't waste your money. This is defiantly for people who
like to use that grey matter between their ears. Trust me this game never gets old.
