Graphics: The graphics for Breath of Fire are pretty poor when
compared to RPGs like Chrono Trigger, but for it's time they were
good. It was an early RPG, and the monsters look really cool. You
can tell the graphics aren't very good, but they are at least smooth.
Sound: Music is normal, but there are a few songs that are just
incredibly good. The lack of tools they used to make this game
shows, but they still did a really good job. At least it sets the mood
of the game. I especially like the battle themes and after you beat a boss.
Gameplay: I rated this game on how it was when it came out. Like
how it's graphics were when it first came out, and such. It was a
pretty early RPG for the SNES that is really under appreciated and
is really good once you get into it. It's a pretty basic RPG, but the
character development and story line are better than most of it's
time. The one thing I didn't like about this game was that the ending
was too plain.
Hardness factor: Pretty much just right for an RPG. Not really easy,
but not hard enough to be nerve-racking.
Overall: 8 out of 10. A great game with okay graphics and sound, but
gameplay that sets it aside from the rest. A really good game, I suggest
you go out and get this game, if not every game from its series. It's
one of the most under appreciated and best old-school RPGs out there.
