Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
Reviewed by (EniGmA)
You all know the Battletoads, right? Fast-paced beat-em-up action with an odd
sense of humor packed into every game? It was known for its humor and creativity
when it debuted on the 8-bit NES. Well, Battletoads: Battlemaniacs is one of the two
Super NES Battletoads carts and has really improved since the first Battletoads for NES.....
Graphics 8 out of 10
The characters in Battletoads in Battlemaniacs are better-looking, bigger, and
nicely animated. They fit well into the game and look very nice. However, even
though the animation is well done, it hasn't improved since the first game. At any
rate, the overall appeal is very good.
Music and Sound 9 out of 10
This game has very well done music and sfx! My personal favorite song was the one
in level 2.....There is no complaint here! Everything sounds great!
Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs plays just like the original game, and you'll be familiar
with many things. Descending the shaft, the hoverbike level, the snake level, it's just
more of the same, just souped up and layed out differently...however, Battletoads in
Battlemaniacs lacks some of its trademark humor and there are no jokes I haven't
seen before. In fact, this is the most serious Battletoads cart I have seen! Also, the
controller layout is kind of weird, when Y is jump and B is punch instead of vice versa.
It's still fun to play, tho.
Overall 7.9 out of 10
If you are looking for more fast-paced Battletoads action with better graphics and
sound, then you've picked up da right cart! If you're looking for more offbeat humor,
may I suggest Battletoads: Double Dragon! Overall, not perfect (what is?) a
well done game that's worthy of the Battletoads name.
