Battle Clash
Reviewed by Elizabeth Gibson
Battle Clash is a high action shoot-em-up with a somewhat good plot.
You take control of the ST (Standing Tank) Falcon, driven by your friend
whose father was killed by Thanatos, a big ugly scary guy who has
destroyed the world. Thanatos made Chiefs to keep control of earth while
he hid out on the moon. Some of these Chiefs became so just to save their
own skins, and some are just nasty mean people with a hankering to blow
you out of the sky. As you pass from level to level you will find new
friends and weapons as well as new challenges, making Battle Clash
highly enjoyable
Graphics: 8 out of 10
Considering the Super NES system, I think the graphics on Battle Clash
are superior. The color is crisp and clear and every part of your foe
is clearly detailed, making game play easier and more rewarding to
play. No much else to say about that.
Music and Sound: 7 out of 10
The music is nice and fits the game quite well. Besides that, there
really isn't much to say about it. It isn't as good as some music
Nintendo has put together, but hey that's OK.
Game Challenge: 9 out of 10
My first couple games I got the snot beat out of me every time. But
once you start getting the hang of things, you become really quite
good quite fast. Still each General and Chief presents new deadly
problems. The game gets much harder once you beat the Chiefs and
move on to Thanatos' Generals, so while you may have been killed 4
or 5 times on the way there you may be killed up to 8 times by the
same General. They're that tough! Gor experienced Super Scope users
the game won't be quite as hard, but for everyone else it will present
quite a challenge!
Game Play-Fun: 8 out of 10
While the game isn't any fun when you keep getting killed, once you
are able to master the game, it becomes much fun. One of my favorite
things to do just for kicks is to slowly remove a foe's legs and arms
until they are just a little bouncing torso. I know that might sound
sick but it is sooooo funny!
Frustration
High frustration levels if you are not used to the Super Scope and/or
in the beginning of the game. I will promise you will get killed a couple
times, and for some people that is really frustrating. To me it is just
motivation to go back and do it right. It really matters on the attitude
you choose to take toward failure.
Replayability: 6 out of 10
I find Battle Clash very repayable, but I understand that for some
people this is not so. It is all a matter of what you like in a game.
In Battle Clash each Chief and General will "behave" a bit differently
every time, giving the game some predictability but no enough to
make it boring.
Game Value: 8 out of 10
I would say that before buying the game that you should download it
onto an emulator and see if you like it. For me it was well worth the
price. I would say though that game play is better on an emulator than
it is with the Super Scope just for calibration. The Super Scope is a
finicky device and irritating to say the least.
Overall: 8 out of 10
I would highly recommend Battle Clash to gamers everywhere.
