The World is Not Enough

There's something about James Bond movies that translate so well into
video games. We all experienced the spectacular masterpiece called
Goldeneye, and now we have The World is Not Enough. If you don't know
the plot, watch the movie. Anyway, this game isn't Goldeneye, but it can
definitely hold its own as a spectacular First Person Shooter.
Graphics: 10 out of 10
They're really very good. The designers even managed to make the game
characters look quite a bit like the movie characters. The environments
are great (especially the ski slope, everything is perfect in that one),
and the graphical effects are top-notch. Even during aggressive fights
and chase scenes, the frames don't skip a bit. But the best feature of all
are the cinema cut scenes that mimic scenes from the movie. They are
extremely done and a wonderful treat after completing a hectic level.
Music and Sound: 10 out of 10
This has spectacular sound! Best of all are the voice clips and the actual
spoken dialogue during the cut scenes. They tried to make the voices sound
the same way as the movie characters and came pretty close. Also, the
music is great. it adds a lot of tension in the appropriate places and does
an excellent job of creating mood.
Game Challenge: 10 out of 10
It gets a little rough in the levels where you have to sneak around without
being seen and without hurting anybody, but that just makes it more fun.
In this game, the emphasis isn't really on killing people so much as its on
sneaking around. It gives it a little boost in the challenge department and
keeps things interesting.
Game Play-Fun: 10 out of 10
This is great in the fun department. The levels are set up so that they
remain fun to play even when they are frustrating. And, if you get sick
of not being able to beat a certain mission, you can play the multi-player
mode to cool off a bit. I rented this game for a weekend, and my brother
and I were both glued to it the whole time. It gets pretty addictive.
Frustration
Well.... the levels where you couldn't shoot anybody were tough. And
sometimes its hard to figure out what to do or where to go. The first
time I played, I didn't know what to do, so I shot a guard and for some
reason lost the mission. It takes some getting used to. You have to
remember that the game is no longer about blasting people to pieces,
and you may lose a lot of missions for killing someone.
Replayability: 9 out of 10
Its still not as cool as Goldeneye, but the missions are still fun to play
again and again. There are even three difficulty levels (with your goal to
finish the game on all three levels), but the highest one might be too hard.
There really isn't much emphasis on collecting, and besides multi-player
and playing your favorite levels, I don't think replayability is perfect.
Game Value: 9 out of 10
You can get Goldeneye for cheaper and its a better game (sorry to be biased,
but it is), but The World is Not Enough is still a high-quality game. If you
like shooters and James Bond, and you happen to have fifty bucks in your
pocket, you might like it.
Multi-player: 8 out of 10
The bots are nearly impossible to kill! Arg! I swear, one time I shot a
bot in the head twelve times, point blank (I even saw the shots ricochet
off of its head). It didn't die, but it hit me once, in the gut and I died. I
had full health too! The computer definitely cheats in multi-player mode,
which brings me to the best part of multi-player: ganging up on the computer.
Grab a friend, find some cave, and both of you wait there. Then, empty your
guns into the bots as soon as they come. Its the best part of the game!
How Good is it Compared to Goldeneye: 9 out of 10
Since its a sequel, people should know. Well, multi-player is more fun on
TWINE, but single player is cooler on Goldeneye. That's about it. I still
think Goldeneye is better, but only a tiny bit. So, if you liked Goldeneye,
you'll like this, and vice-versa.
Overall: 9 out of 10
All in all, this game rocks. The impressive sound, realistic graphics,
and multi-player shenanigans make it rockin'! There are flaws, and its
not as good as Goldeneye, but this game is still very, very good. So, the
next time you go past blockbuster, rent this tasty little gem. You will
not be disappointed!
