World Driver Championship
Reviewed by Kim Nachtergaele
World Driver Championship, I'm just gonna say WDC, is a racing game
that isn't here to make jokes about. It's one of the best I've ever
played. Although every now and then the game is too hard for the
not-so-experienced player, it's great fun for the players who already,
for example, have got a taste of Top Gear Rally and here's another
one:V-Rally. It can be great fun, but it can also get you very frustrated.
Graphics: 9 out of 10
The game looks great with out the expansion pak, and the possibility that
you can use it, is very nice. However, there are two black bars in the
top of your screen, and also in the bottom. Once you get used of the
two bars, it's all good and well, but if you prefer a big screen AND
a nice, clean and sharp view, then you're not at the right place with
this game. Anyway, you still should think that this is a race game, and
that the game play is still the most important thing that should make it good.
Music and Sound: 6 out of 10
What do you expect for a race game? Of course it's no orchestra like
in Zelda, but it still isn't that bad. The noises that the cars make are
quite fine, except that every now and then they make a weird 'beeping'-noise,
or a suspicious 'vrooming'-sound. The music is what you can expect in a
race game, you know, some guitars and drums...Overall the sounds are alert.
Game Challenge: 7 out of 10
If you really are a race fan and you just can't stay away from these
games, then I think you'll even enjoy Carmageddon for the N64. However,
we aren't here to talk about these people, right? We're gonna concentrate
us on the average players, after all, isn't that what reviews are for? I was
in the beginning pretty challenged with this game, and it lasted quite a
while, but on termain, it gets kind of boring. The fact that you can switch
between teams and cars, is a very good feature. But race games are to
race with, and not to switch teams all the time, or listen to the crap
that your teammates have to say. Yes, I'm gonna stick with my point
that it gets annoying after a while.
Game Play-Fun: 8 out of 10
I don't have much comments about the game play, it's very well done.
Now and then you make weird turn, but that's about it. Oh, just one thing,
on the Kyoto track, it's best to let you just smack into the walls or
against other cars, instead of braking, because they'll get you otherwise.
Frustration
Well, I think you can get frustrated with any game, but here it doesn't
show that much, except for the fact that you just can't win that one cup,
AAARRGGHHH!!!!! Uh, okay that's the only thing I have to say, with other
words; the game isn't really to get that frustrated of like in a game such
as Tetris, but if you're stuck with a cup, then it's just terrible.
Replayability: 5 out of 10
The multi player is okay and good to play with your friends, but once you
get all the cups, I think you'll be too tiered to even bother trying the same
thing, with anothet team. You can always play it again, if your brother
happened to erase the whole thing and you wanted to show it of to your friends.
Overall: 8.5 out of 10
It's a heck of a game, WDC, not watching the little annoying problems, I would
say that it's a very good and beautiful game. All tough as I all ready said in
the introduction, I think that little children and not-very-experienced
players are better of with games like Mario Kart, Top Gear Rally or
variants on these games.
