WCW vs NWO: World Tour
Reviewed by Rex Greenwald III
Well, I'm not exactly sure how to introduce such a great game! It starts you
off with forty characters and another six hidden ones. Wrestlers from the
world championship wrestling, the new world order, the dead or alive
league, ant the independent wrestlers federation, and each of these
characters has thirty to forty moves including their own signature
moves. The game has five play modes.
Graphics 9 out of 10
The graphics in this game are outstanding! Were it not for the occasional
separating of some polygons (i.e. can see between two of them), you would
swear these wrestlers were really doing what you told them! The realism
option also ads some nice blood effects to the match, like splitting
somebodies face open and the people will also hold parts of their body
if you beat that part. The polygons are nice and clear and the movement
has a respectable number of sprites. But the nicest thing about this game
is its totally 3D! You can go anywhere in the ring instead of just, left,
right, up, and down and being in certain areas gives you certain advantages
or disadvantages.
Music and Sound 8 out of 10
Wrestling games don't need many bells and whistles but, The sound effects
are crisp and clear, as is the music. The sound is good but after a while,
the games rocking soundtrack gets to be repetitive to the point of homicide!
I usually end up turning it off, to tell the truth. all in all though,
the sound and music are surprisingly good.
Game Challenge 8 out of 10
The games simple combination of buttons makes moves easy and defeating
the games "bosses" quick, but to master the controls, it can take some
time and a lot of patience. If your very bad at the game, the hard
difficulty rating can lead to defeat after defeat.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
I have always liked games of mindless violence, so this is very fun! You
get to beat on another human for no good reason except for entertainment
value. I think this is one of the best games to appear for the n64 so far!
Rumble Pak 5 out of 10
This game definitely deserves some shaking, but it just doesn't feel right
to get body slammed and have your HANDS shake! Although it does add a
little to the game play, I think they could have left that out when they
were programing this cart. It was probably a good idea at the time I'll bet!
Frustration
You will get very frustrated if you can figure out the moves in time.
Because if you cant fight, fending of the attacks is your only other
hope and even then, the fending teqnuiqe (press R button when they
attack) doesn't always work. Its shouldn't be to frustrating though as
the moves are easily figured out and performed.
Replayability 10 out of 10
Its got a high replay value because beating people whenever you feel like
it is fun. Say you've had a horrible day and your really mad, just slap in
this cart, turn on the system, and beat people bloody and chock them into
submission! The excellent graphics help add to this factor! (just something
funny I want to point out here. Some wrestlers have a move where they head
butt you to the groin, but I guess they forgot to change the woman's factors,
because if you head butt her, she grabs her crotch and rolls around the
ground, too!!!!)
Game Value 10 out of 10
This cart retails for about $59.99, but I would glady pay even $99.99 for
this game! Its just so good, and for this price, you just really cant
go wrong! I cant really put it in words. Wait, yes I can, go out and buy
this game!
Overall 9 out of 10
This is just such a good game! I wasn't expecting a game this good
for the N64 until Zelda 64 or Earthbound 64 came out! This is one for the
record books folks! And I hear another wrestling game is coming out
for the N64 soon!
