Turok: Rage Wars
Reviewed by Austin Phillips
I'm a big fan of the Turok series. I loved Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and
couldn't get enough of it. Then I got hooked on Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
and after a year I finally beat it. Now Turok: Rage Wars comes storming
onto the 64 and boy does it deliver. Great multi player action combined
with cool weapons and awesome characters to deliver an experience
unlike any other. Here's what I think of the game.
Graphics: 10 out of 10
This game has some of the best graphics on the console to date. The
Expansion Pak makes a big difference and makes everything really
sharp and crisp. Character models aren't that impressive but they're
still reconisible. That's probably to keep the framerate up and boy it
helps. This game has no, and I repeat, NO slowdown whatsoever. This
makes the game much more enjoyable and keeps everything running
nicely. Great detail and animations make these some of the best
graphics to date.
Music and Sound: 9 out of 10
TRW has great sound. The music is very low and in the back ground. It
even sounds very similar to the music on the Catacombs in Turok 1. It's
not that great but helps keep the atmosphere dark and creepy which is
really nice. Also, the weapons sound fantastic. Bullets hitting skin,
rockets exploding, metal hitting metal, etc. And the players sound nice
as well. Each has their own cry when they're hit. They grunt, shout,
scream, and so on. This is really nice and helps let you know who's being
killed without being in the same room. Fantastic!
Game Challenge: 10 out of 10
Talk about challenging! This game features plenty of challenge and
will keep you playing for quite some time. The game goes like this: you
pick a character and enter what's called a "trial". When you complete
that trial, you unlock weapons, a secret character, and many other
things. As the trial goes on, it gets harder and will have you running
for your life. Most are pretty simple, like Kill 7 people with 5 lives,
and so on. Eventually, missions will be harder, like Kill 20 people with
3 lives. This adds great reply value and will have you playing for
months. Trust me, I know.
Game Play-Fun: 10 out of 10
This game is fun fun fun! The great thing is that you can play with up to
three other friends, or by yourself with computer controlled bots as the
other three players. This is a great way to play and very challenging when
nobody's around to play. There are great games like Tag the Monkey, Capture
the Flag, Team Battle, and regular Frag Fest. They're all fun and if I tried to
explain every one of them I could go on forever. You just have to play them
to see. They're all great and add hours of fun and reply value.
Frustration
1. Some missions may be too challenging.
2. Unlocking everything can take a long time.
3. Poor one player mode gets old after all the characters are unlocked.
Replayability: 9 out of 10
With all the cheats, characters, and weapons to unlock, this game will
keep you playing. With or without friends this game in incredibly fun and
should be tried by everyone at least once. After everything has been
unlocked it will still have you playing just for the sheer fun of it. Let
the hunting begin!
Game Value: 10 out of 10
For $20 this game's a bargain. Take my word for it. You won't find a better
game than this. Or at least rent or borrow it first because there's mostly
multi player and very little single player. A must have for FPS fans.
Content: 7 out of 10
On a short note, it has a mature rating. There's also plenty of violence and
blood, so parents of younger children should probably stay clear.
Overall: 9 out of 10
What can I say, I simply love this game. Sure it kind of gets old after a
while, but I still come back for more. Try this game. But be warned: once
you play you may get hooked. Don't miss this game. Do I dare say it?
Okay, I will. I think this game has better multi player than Goldeneye.
Some will probably disagree, but I think this is better, more fast paced,
and more exciting. Get this game NOW!
