Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Reviewed by Chris Cavanaugh
The first Turok looked OK, with some blood, but the sequel is
almost nothing but! You can blow off any monsters head, arm,
legs, and sometimes half of the monster itself! With great
first-person shooter games already out for the Nintendo 64, Turok 2
sure deserves to be put up there with the greats.
Graphics 9.5 out of 10
Turok 2's graphics are almost untouchable. From the textures
of the monster's skin, to caves, water, blood, and weapons, this
Turok dwarfs its predecessor. Just take a good look at the
seagulls flying in level one, which you can even shoot at and kill!
Another plus: If you can get close enough to a rapture or and endtail,
look at their teeth even!
Music and Sound 7.5 out of 10
Walk into an unexplored room. Listen closely... Hear anything? Maybe
a monster walking around above or below you, water rushing from a
waterfall, and maybe even a battle in the distance with screams and
gunshots. Pretty intense, huh? Or when you blow a monsters head off,
and hear the blood pumping out of its neck. Also, your shotgun, pistol,
swishes of the talon and war blade, and even the bangs of the grenades.
So sound scores pretty well, so how about the music? Well, people
have had mixed opinions on the music, but I think its OK. Even though
it's not that good, it still gives you that edge when you're about to
sneak up on some un-suspecting monster.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
Just the 1st level of this game gave me more trouble than I expected.
It took me about 3 or 4 days to figure out the first level, and it still
takes me about an hour and a half to beat it for fun! The pink portals
that give you the option of saving in the middle of the levels are a real
life-saver though. Other than figuring out how to get through the levels,
surviving is another important factor! Running low on ammo and health
really make you savage all that you can to stay prepared. So, as it deserves,
Turok 2 scores perfectly on my score card for the challenge it presents.
Replayability 9 out of 10
Even after beating the 1st level who nows how many times, I still very
often go back and beat it again and again, just killing monsters again
and again every time. Unlike games like Killer Instinct Gold and
Pilotwings, Turok 2 can be played over and over for a VERY long time.
Overall 9 out of 10
Overall, I can easily say that Turok 2 should be owned me any serious
Nintendo 64 gamer.
