Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Reviewed by Colin Healy
Star Wars, Shadows of the Empire is based on the book of the same name.
There are 4 levels of difficulty, easy, medium, hard, and Jedi. So, basically,
you can never feel the game is to easy or to hard. This game is not a good
game to rent, as it is fairly long and there are many game secrets.
Graphics 6 out of 10
The graphics in this game are nothing great. The game's main problem:
The colors. They are very bland. It looks like there are only five colors
in the whole game. if you can get past that problem, I guess the game's
graphics are okay. Sometimes the explosions look a little one-dimensional.
Music and Sound 7 out of 10
The music is the same as the music that was in the Star Wars movies.
You can of course choose between stereo and mono. The music is very
clear. However, the sound is not that great. When you shoot a baddie, he
will groan. This gets very repetitive after a while. The explosions sound
pretty dumb.
Game Challenge 8 out of 10
This game can never be to hard. With four levels of difficulty, game challenge
is not a problem. The missions never change from difficulty level to difficulty
level. The easy mode is too easy, while Jedi really tests how good you are.
Get all the challenge points in the game, and you will receive a special
award. The rewards range from getting a Leebo scanner, to piloting different
kinds of ships, to having all weapons and short-lived invincibility.
Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10
It's a fun game. Certainly not the most fun game out there, but it's still
good. Bosses are much more fun then the regular levels. The levels are long,
and they sometimes can get boring.
Frustration
This game can get frustrating on the higher difficulty levels. because the
levels are long, you feel like you wasted your time if you get pretty far in
the level and then die. On Hard and Jedi, the bad guys can kill you pretty fast.
This gets annoying. On Easy there is no frustration whatsoever.
Replayability 7 out of 10
This game has good replayability. If you beat the game on a low difficulty
level, you can work yourself up the ladder until you get to the Jedi mode.
After you beat the game on all levels of difficulty, you can go back and get
all the Challenge Points. Some are very hard to find.
Game Value 7 out of 10
The bottom line: Yes the game is worth the price, especially with Nintendo's
new Player's Choice prices. You may not want to get it if you play with a
sibling or a friend a lot, since it is a 1-player game. If you play by yourself,
this game is for you.
