Star Wars Rogue Squadron
Reviewed by Dan
If there is a flight game with better graphics than this I would be very
surprised. Even without the expansion set it looks very good, but when you
plug in the expansion pack it looks very good. With a moderate story, a
bunch of levels, and a lot of ships, this game packs in tons of voice,
sound, and music samples, this game will compete with Zelda for game
of the year... at least in graphics.
Graphics 10 out of 10
I have never given such a high score to any game. The graphics in
Star Wars Rogue Squadron are very good. The pop-ups are well hidden,
and well done. There are few repeating patterns and with a great frame
rate and a large variety of colors, this is the perfect game to show off
the expansion packs power. This game has created a new standard in
graphic excellence.
Music and Sound 8 out of 10
The Nintendo 64 is not famous for great sounds or music. You wouldn't think
so with this game. There are just so many samples. The voices are not cd
quality but they are very well done. The music is good, repetitive, but
while you are playing it only enhances the experience. The explosions and
hits are pin point accurate when it comes to sounds. The best way of knowing
if you hit that annoying Tie Intercepter is when you it start to sputter and fall.
Game Challenge 9 out of 10
This is not an easy game. You can not just pick up the controller and fly right
through (no pun intended). Even when you beat the game you still want to get
all the gold medals. The hardest part is keeping your friends alive. You have to
raise ahead and knock out some At-AT's, but be protecting a convoy from
bombers at the same time. There are literally hundreds of strategies to do
this. There are hidden power ups scattered all over in hard to reach/find places.
This game was definitely not rushed.
Game Play-Fun 6 out of 10
The game is not the most fun to play, especially if you are not a fan of Star
Wars. There are fun bonus levels with cheat codes. Overall it is a strategy
flying war game in the good looking star wars universe.
Replayability 8 out of 10
This game has a large replay value. It is not like Mario where, by the time
you beat the game, you have seen every part of every level. It's always fun
to go back and play a level you barely could beat and do it with such ease
now. You can go back to those early stages and you will be able to pick new
crafts to fly the level. The replayability is easily seen.
Overall 9 out of 10
This game seems to have everything a star wars or fighter game could want.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron now leads with a few other games in graphics, and
finally ends the graphic debate between Nintendo and Sony. Even the ordinary
Nintendo 64 looks pathetic once you plug in that expansion set and start playing
in a perfect 3 dimensional environment. If you hate this game, you still have to
love the graphics and admire the sound.
