Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer
Reviewed by Pat Burns
Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer is a unique racing game. The game is pulled
from an exciting scene in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. You can race
on many different worlds with many different racers. Also, you can
upgrade your pod with the money you win by beating the races.
Graphics 8 out of 10
The graphics are very nice, especially since you are moving at 500
MPH. The worlds are nicely detailed and the racers are equally as good.
One problem that arose when playing, is that when you get moving
really fast, it is hard to tell where to turn on some courses. This gets
easier as you learn the courses more. Overall I thought the graphics
were really nice.
Music and Sound 9 out of 10
I thought the sound was great for the game. It had nice sound effects
for almost everything. When you boosted there was a great sound effect,
for example. I didn't notice the music very much because I wasn't really
listening to it, but i think when you are selecting the characters, it
plays the alien music from the bar in the original movie. The only
problem with the sound effects was that they needed more of them.
Game Challenge 8 out of 10
The game was not very challenging in the beginning levels, but I
counted that as a plus because it gave me a chance to learn how
to maneuver well. But as you progressed the levels got very difficult,
and if you didn't have a good enough pod, you would definitely lose.
Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10
It was kind of fun to have control of the pod that Anakin raced in
in the movie. You could do whatever you wanted and you decided
the outcome of the race. The later levels were fun to play also
because there were many different paths to take, and you never
knew which one was faster.
Frustration
In some of the levels the biggest frustrations were crashing
repeatedly. It was like you couldn't gain any speed without
crashing into another wall again. Also, right after you get a
good boost and crashing was a big frustration.
Replayability 7 out of 10
The one player game can only last so long before you beat it more
times than you can count. But, There are many different racers to
try to beat it with, so that made it more interesting. Also, the 2
player mode was very fun. I haven't stopped liking that yet. But as
any game it will get old no matter how much you like it.
Game Value 6 out of 10
I think that you take a risk when you buy any racing game
because its life is generally a lot shorter than any other game's.
The tracks can get dreadfully boring and other games will come
along and make you lose interest even more. But, this game is very
entertaining and the multiplayer is very fun. It is a better buy than
some racing games out there.
Overall 7.5 out of 10
Overall this is a great game to rent once or twice because you only
have to spend a few dollars, and the tracks can't really get boring.
I think it is an innovative game and a great pull from an exciting
scene in The Phantom Meneace.
