South Park Rally
Reviewed by Danielle L.
For all of you hard-core South Park fanatics (as well as those of you
who just enjoy fart jokes and foul-mouthed little kids), Acclaim has
made a very excellent game for you! South Park Rally is your typical
racing game, with a few exceptions: crazier tracks, wackier scenarios,
and all of those lovable little mental patients from South Park that you
can race with! You'd have to be as dumb as Cartman's mom to pass up this
totally worthy game!
Graphics: 8 out of 10
The graphics in this game are actually better than the animation in the
TV show (but that's not very hard to do). When you're driving along the
streets of South Park, you see visually pleasing landscapes, the other
3-d cars in front of you, and many other well-rendered 3-dimensional
objects. When you're driving your car, you really appear to be driving,
and when you get smacked with an item, you can see something VERY
interesting happen sometimes (especially with the airborne herpes and
the anal probe). It loses some points in the graphics department due to
occasional image break-up, but other than that, I have no problem
with the graphics.
Music and Sound: 10 out of 10
Even if you buy this game and decide that you hate it, you'll still want
to play it over and over again just to hear all of the crazy (not to
mention vulgar) things that the characters say. Whether its Kenny's
incoherent mumbling, Ike's childish babbling, Terrence and Philip's
fartish joking, or Cartman saying "Dang it! I'm gonna chop of your wee-wee
a..aa..and put it on some bread, a..aa..and feed it to Kitty!", the dialogue in
this game will have you rolling on the floor laughing. Each character's
voice is flawlessly reproduced and the music during each of the races is
cathy enough to keep you pumped to win! Perfect score for the music department!
Game Challenge: 10 out of 10
I got this game a couple of weeks ago, and at first I didn't like it because
I thought it was way too hard (I couldn't get past Rally Days #2, and if I
did I couldn't get past Cow Days), but after I started playing it a little bit
more, I got better at it and started to progress through the races much
faster. If you're stuck and can't beat one of the races, DON'T GIVE UP!! Just
practice a little more, and you'll eventually do it! The game is easy enough
to make me not want to run over it with my car, but not so easy that I get
bored after playing it for a little while.
Game Play-Fun: 10 out of 10
I love this game! I already said how much I liked the dialogue, but I didn't
even mention how cool I think the actual racing is! Its not like a lot of
racing games where you have to just do laps on an ordinary outdoor track,
this game is so much more! In this game, you have many different tracks.
There are outdoor tracks (ex: the farm, the mountain, etc.) and indoor
tracks (ex: Big Gay Al's house, the sewer etc.) and instead of just driving
around the different tracks, you actually have a TASK to accomplish!
Sometimes you have to hang onto the antidote for Mad Cow Disease,
shoot your fellow racers with cupid's bow and arrow, or even go looking
for soiled underwear in a moldy old sewer. To add to this crazy fun, you
have the arcade mode. Arcade mode allows you to race on any track and
with any scenario you've unlocked in Championship (the regular) mode.
Have fun messing with different combinations of scenarios and tracks!
But, wait-- There's more! There is also a multi-player mode where you
can play against your friends on any track or scenario you've unlocked!
You can also play "ass battle" which is similar to super Mario Kart's
balloon-battle, except MUCH more fun!
Frustration
Well, I did say before that I originally hated this game because it was
too hard at first. There are a few times when the computer racers make
me want to rip my hair out (like when they steal the mad Cow Disease
antidote from me... argg!!!). I also got po'd that I needed a controller pak
to save, and that some characters you have to unlock before you can race
as them, but this game isn't really frustrating.
Replayability: 10 out of 10
Its not likely that you'll get sick of playing this game. After you've beaten
championship, you'll still be going back to unlock all of the different cars.
Also, you can play against your friends some more and in the arcade race
with all of it's awesome track/scenario combos that you can make up!
Overall: 9 out of 10
Well, if you were paying any attention at all to the rest of this review,
you can tell that I am obsessed with this game! :). But there are some
things I didn't like: not being able to start off racing with all of the
characters, having to unlock tracks to be able to race on them, and the
fact that you need a controller pak to save are at the top of my list. But
besides those three faults, I have to honestly say that I love this game!
If you love South Park, or even if you would like to strangle Matt Stone
and Trey Parker to death (very very slowly) this is the game for you!
