South Park Rally
Reviewed by Danielle L.
Who can't love South Park? Well, join Kenny, Stan, Cartman, Kyle, and all
their foul-mouth little friends to race some karts! You'll travel through
South park trying to complete wacko objectives such as curing your self
of Mad Cow Disease and saving little baby chicks from the infamous
chicken lover. You'll battle the other drivers with speed, stealth, airborne
herpes, and anal probes! Its gonna be one weird experience!
Graphics: 7 out of 10
They did a pretty good job of making the characters look the same way
they do in the cartoon, and the animation was all pretty good. There was
quite a bit of image break-up though, such as when you complete the race,
the top of your character's head usually disappears for some reason. The
graphics are also a little fuzzy around the edges, but I didn't use the
expansion pack, so that could be the problem.
Music and Sound: 9 out of 10
They could have changed the music a little more from level to level, but
the music they do have is pretty catchy. I especially liked the song in the
game's intro. Nice touch to add that. The sound effects are great, too.
When you barf, it sounds like you really are, when you throw a water
balloon, there's a nice splashing sound, the underwear elves that steal
player's items make a cute babble, and who could forget the anal probe
sound effects? ("Oooh! When I get this feeling.. I gotta sing!). The voice
clips are fantastic, each character has their own array of sayings they
use when they win, get hit, get bored, or see another player. But, it is a
little vulgar at times.
Game Challenge: 10 out of 10
Its a nice challenge without being frustrating. Rally Days 1 is really
easy, but the races get progressively harder. Some races will take you
several tries to beat, but they aren't annoyingly difficult. My biggest
beef was the fact that you save on a controller pack, and then you still
have to do all of the races over again to get back where you were! GRR!
Also, some characters are almost impossible to unlock.
Game Play-Fun: 7 out of 10
I own it, but I don't play it very often. I don't know why, I guess its just
not very addictive. If you have someone to play it with you in multi-player,
you're going to have a heck of a blast! Challenge mode is pretty fun, but
the best part is arcade mode, where you can select any track, and any
objective and play your own custom-made crazy race! Its great for an
hour, but after a month or two, you may stop coming back to play.
Frustration
The most frustrating thing is being second place in a race you've been
trying to beat for an hour! Arg! Also, some of the characters are really
hard to unlock, we're talking impossible! That's about it. There's not
too much that is frustrating about this game, which is good.
Replayability: 10 out of 10
Its going to take you awhile to get all of the tracks, objectives, and
characters, so that alone ups the replayability factor. Also, after
you've gotten everything, you can still play multi-player and arcade
mode, which really rocks after you've unlocked everything. Its still
fun every once in awhile even after you've gotten everything.
Game Value: 10 out of 10
I'm such a schmuck. I bought this for myself at Christmas for $40,
and now I see it in stores for $10. Oh well, it was worth 40, and it is
definitely worth 10! I suggest you grab it, or rent it first, whichever.
it will take a lot of your time, and for just ten bucks? That can't be beat.
Just make sure you already have a controller pack, so you can save.
Multi-player: 10 out of 10
Multi-player in this game rocks! My brother and I always play it for hours
on end. The awesome multi-player feature makes for a good break when
you're frustrated from Challenge mode. So, get 1 or 3 of your friends,
this cart (hey, have them all chip in, you pay $2.50 each to play)and get
ready for some fun!
Overall: 8 out of 10
This is a great game. It may not be as good as some people expect, but
for ten dollars, you have no excuse to whine. Its fun if you're alone, its
really fun if you play it with friends, and it will keep you entertained
long after you've beaten it. Though not perfect, this game is a true gem,
and I'm very happy to own it.
