Rampage World Tour
Reviewed by Johnny@JGW
Rampage was a classic game that featured three angry monsters that
went around destroying buildings and eating who ever they wanted.
Well, Rampage World Tour is a revamped version of the classic and
Midway did a pretty good job on it.
Graphics 7 out of 10
The graphics have a nice variety of colors and animation. When you kick
a human and see them splat, you get tingly inside. The backgrounds are
the main part of the graphics that change from each level, and they look
very great. The graphics won't blow you away, but it's good enough.
Music and Sound 7 out of 10
The music is kind of rock and is VERY repetitive. It'll get annoying after
five or levels. Luckily, you can turn the music as low as you want. The
sound is better. The typical monster roars are in the game, along with
high screams of people. There are different sound F/X, and they occur
at appropriate times.
Game Challenge 7 out of 10
This game is challenging. At most times, you'll be destroying buildings
when suddenly, you die. Little bullets are constantly being shot at you,
so your health diminishes quickly. This game was meant for the arcades,
where you would play 3-5 minutes before needing more quarters. The
solution for this problem is that you get UNLIMITED continues, so
dying isn't much of a problem. You could beat this game in a day.
Game Play-Fun 7 out of 10
The gameplay is pretty straightforward: destroy everything you can.
You can punch, kick, stomp, and even spit fire to accomplish this task.
The problem is after 15 or 20 minutes of playing Rame World Tour,
you will become bored as the levels get more repetitive. You can
control your giant Ape/Lizard/Wolf/Pink-Flying-Monster with the
cross-pad or analog stick (the analog gives you an "Arcade" feel).
Up to three players can play, and that saves most of the gameplay.
Rumble Pak 9 out of 10
Rampage World Tour was made for the Rumble Pak. The controller
shakes when you fall or get shocked and it shakes with the right
force. When the screen gets a little flooded with bombs, fires,
etc., the Rumble Pak shakes a little too much. But in the end, it's enjoyable.
Replayability 7 out of 10
The game is repetitious, repetitious, and repetitious. There are really
only 5 or 6 levels with different enemies and things to do. An occasional
"Fight Your Friend 'Til the Death" is always fun (unless you lose). If
Midway made a better reward (hidden levels, new moves, etc.) for
beating a certain number of levels, this game could last longer.
Game Value 6 out of 10
The three-player game is great, but not worth $50-60. Unless you
absolutely want to beat the whole game, I suggest: (A) Rent the game
for a day or two (B) Bring loads of quarters to the arcade or (C) Buy a
used Rampage World Tour for under $35. Of course, if you've never
liked the classic game, stay far away from the new one.
Overall 6 out of 10
The game gets boring, but Rampage World Tour is always a game you
can pick up and start playing. The three-player game is always enjoyable
when a couple buds come over, but the rewards for playing and beating
the game just aren't worth the time. It's a nice rental for the weekend,
but only die-hard fans of the series should purchase the game.
