NFL Quarterback Club '98
Reviewed by Matt Saladna
Nfl Quarterback Club '98 has many good things about it, yet some
things "bring it down".
Graphics
NFL QB Club has superb graphics (high resolution). The snow literally
blankets the ground and with the instant replay function you can see
the center snap the ball to the qb. Even with a created player, their name
is on their back. The graphics are the best I have seen overall. The game
is slow though from its graphics and does run slower than Madden.
Music and Sound
The music and sound are not all that great, they seem to play lower (in
sound level) than any of the other Nintendo games currently.
Game Play-Fun
The game is fun (with the fact that fatter people can injure smaller
people more frequently and that you can also have any player control
on with multiplayer games. You cannot reorder a roster permanently
after you have a team set, which is a major disappointment. If you
can then it is sure hard as hell to figure out how to operate it. You
can only create 22 players versus Madden 64's 24 players. Yet the
cheat codes do make it a lot more fun. Also with a created team Qb
club will automatically calculate their pass d, offense, defense,
et cetera.
Game Play-Rumble Pak
The reaction of the rumble pack is slow (lagged), and the effects of
it are not all that great. It really makes no difference in the game,
except your controller is now lugging a heavy accessory.
Frustration
The fact that there is no pre game reordering that can easily make
some one mad. Once you have made the reordering with a created
team that is all. You can not include a created team in the trading
or free agent singing after the initial team creation. The tackling
scheme is very cheap! A small linebacker can tackle a big 7'7 400
pound fat fullback easily and also send him sailing 3 feet back. You
really do not have a chance of breaking tackles (that is unless you are
lucky). People (Wide receivers) cannot receive the ball too well, nor
can someone intercept the ball easily. You basically have to tackle
before he catches the ball and hope that the coverer can intercept
the ball. There is no way to intercept the ball play without the ball
souring 10 feet into the air.
Replayability
The fact that it is a sports game WITH many cheats make it fun and
somewhat exciting.
Game Value
This game is BARELY worth the price, if it wasn't for its graphics I would
have probably bought Madden 64 over it. If you want a good sports game
or semi, then buy San Francisco Rush, or Madden 64. Madden may not be
licensed, but is faster and has better play control. The first game you
should buy should be Goldeneye 007 or Diddy Kong Racing, then maybe QB Club.
Conclusion
The game would not have sparked my interest without it's graphics and
cheat codes. The game is not as good as Madden though, play control
wise, not graphic wise or team wise (Madden isn't licensed by the NFL :( ).
