Mortal Kombat Mythologies
Reviewed by Jordan Montgomery
First of all, Mortal Kombat Mythologies is an excellent game. There is
only one thing different about it. It's actually a prequel. In other words,
it is the first game of the Mortal Kombat series. This game isn't like any
other Mortal Kombat game where you fight a specific person and in a
specific arena. This is an RPG game in which you, Sub- Zero, must
complete 10 difficult missions including breaking into the Shaolin
Temple and stealing a sacred map of the elements. To assist you in
your tasks, you can perform combos and gain experience points to gain
new and different abilities, such as the Polar Blast, the most powerful
ability Sub-Zero can learn. All of these abilities are essential for your
success. I recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a good,
3D, side-scrolling, action packed adventure game.
Graphics 10 out of 10
As I played this game, I was amazed at how good the graphics on this
game were. They interact with the background and make the game more
realistic. I know that whoever plays this game will also be amazed
at how great these graphics are. The graphics on N64 games are what
everyone looks for. I know this because I'm one of them. Mortal Kombat
Mythologies, already stated above, has excellent graphics which make
the game more exciting. Compare the Shaolin Temple's background to a
real temple. They actually look the same. Once again, I feel compelled
to reregister my statement and remind you that this game should be
played around the world.
Music and Sound 10 out of 10
When I first started a new game, I wasn't too impressed by the
background music and sound of the first stage. They weren't that
great because it was stealth music. But as I progressed, the music
and sound became better and better. The game practically has an
unlimited variety of background music for boss fights, level music,
and everything else. The game even has it's own background music
when you enter certain rooms! That's how much of a variety there is
as far as music goes. The sound, however, is different. It interacts
into both the background music and graphics. Formal Mortal Kombat
players and fans should remember the sound from the Mortal Kombat
series. When you punch someone repeatedly, they respond back like
"Ooh, Ungh, Ach,." Something like that because it's hard to place what
the enemies are saying. This game's music and sound are awesome.
This is why I rated it a 10 of 10.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
As I played this game, It was pretty hard because you had to perform
some good combos to gain experience and learn the different abilities.
You would probably think that seeing you only had to complete one
objective on the first stage, it would be easy. That's what I thought,
but I was wrong. Sometime in the first stage, you'll run into crashing
pillars that detected movement. If you didn't perform the right move,
like a sweep kick, the pillar would crash down on your foot. Ouch!! You
also have to perform certain tasks to reach a different section. At the
end of the first part of the temple, you need to jump from a balcony
onto the tarp below and make a perfect landing. The game does this for
you, but you need to do the perfect move. This game is challenging and
once you get the hang of the controls and the game play, you'll
understand how to play better.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
I had to admit, this game's gameplay was pretty difficult to master.
The thing I had to do to learn the controls better was to switch the
normal controls to the controls of the Mortal Kombat games. For example,
instead of "L" being high punch, I put high punch for "B." You get the idea.
This game is also fun. A game has to be fun, right? Because if a game
wasn't fun, why would you and who would play it? That's the main
thing people look for in N64 games. Is how much fun they are. This game,
rest assured, is fun. It amazes me that no matter how many times you
beat a game, it's still fun to play. I look forward to playing this game
everyday. I still play it, even though it hardly gives me a challenge, but
I still enjoy going through the chapters again. This game is at it's
maximum limit for fun.
Rumble Pak 10 out of 10
Most people looked for more capability in games with the rumble pak.
It only works with certain games, such as this one. Many people,
however were disappointed with it's first use in Star Fox 64. I think
it was okay, but it still lacked something in Star Fox with the rumble
pak. The two best uses of the rumble pak are in Goldeneye and Mortal
Kombat Mythologies. The controller rumbles like heck when you hit
someone, get hit, and when a major boss explodes. This game's
capability is totally increased with the use of the rumble pak. Try it
yourself. You'll agree just like I did.
Frustration
This game was very frustrating the first few times I played it.
I could never get a special ability to work at the proper time and
kept dying when it wouldn't work. I finally managed to get the hang
of playing and managed to beat the game. Now it hardly frustrates me.
I'll admit, it's okay to get frustrated sometimes, but constant
frustration shows that you're getting a little stressed out, which
means to take a break for just a little while and go back. "Learn from
your mistakes" is a common phrase I say to myself when I can't finish
something in a game correctly. This game is and always be frustrating
if you don't get the hang of things in the game. Once you do, you'll
realize that it's no longer frustrating.
Replayability 10 out of 10
When I played and finished Mortal Kombat Mythologies, I believed that
it would no longer be any fun. I was wrong. I now enjoy going through
the chapters starting from the beginning. It gives the game more
character. If you pay attention to what the characters say between
stages, it sometimes gives you helpful information about your next
assignment. I believe that this game is worth playing over from the
beginning once you've beaten it. You'll be amazed at still how much
fun the game is once you've beaten it.
Game Value 10 out of 10
I believe that Mortal Kombat Mythologies is worth the price it's offered
for. It can be found anywhere for at least $60.00. Some places might
offer it for more and that's the sign they know how popular a game is
and are trying to take advantage of a game's features just in order to
make some extra money. This game's graphics are awesome, the music
and sound rule, it's gameplay with and without the rumble pak are spiffy,
and the other features of the game are awesome. Judge for yourself. Is
this game worth the price it's offered for? I believe it is.
Overall 10 out of 10
My conclusion to this awesome game is this: Of all the N64 games that
I have played, this fits the top 5 record in my mind. So far, I give this
game a 2nd place next to Goldeneye. If a game has so many features that
are awesome, that means that is really is good. This game is one of those
"Perfect" games. I still recommend this game to anyone who is looking for
a good, 3D, side-scrolling, action packed adventure game. I give this game
a perfect 10 of 10, or 100 of 100. Awesome!
