Mario Golf
Reviewed by Panther
The first time I saw Mario Golf I never would have thought that it
would be good at all. I mean Golf? Who would think that it could be
any good. That was before I bought the game. Now I have the game,
and even after you beat it the game play just keeps getting more fun.
There are so many different types of golf you can play in the game,
and so many different types of courses too. Not all of the golf courses
look the same at all. There are six different one, including a desert one,
a regular one, and one with a Nintendo character on each hole! Beleive it
or not, this is a great game.
Graphics: 8 out of 10
The graphics for Mario Golf are great, they are pretty much standard for
the 64, but they are good. The replays that they show you have very good
graphics along with the courses and the characters, but I think that they
probably could have made it a little better. To sum it all up, the graphics
are standard for the 64.
Music and Sound: 10 out of 10
The music and sound are great in the game. Some of the music you here
is what you would expect for a Mario game, but a good bit of the music
is new and has a good beat to it. Nintendo did a good job on the music at
the end of the game because it is a remix of the original Mario music
from Mario Bros. The sound is good in the game with no flaws in it. Each
character has 4 different taunts and there are lots of characters. The
sound and music in this game is great, especially the music.
Game Challenge: 9 out of 10
There is a good bit of a challenge in this game also. The one player
"Get Character" mode is for unlocking characters, and a lot of the
characters, especially Wario, are hard to unlock. To unlock Metal Mario,
you have to get a birdie on every hole in all of the six golf courses,
sheesh!!!! One of the most challenging ways of play is the "Ring Shot"
mode where you have to hit your ball through all of the rings on a hole
and get the ball in the hole in par. The last set of Ring Shots that you do
are really hard, and can take forever. The tournament mode that they have
that lets you unlock different golf courses is not as hard as it sounds.
You just play a regular round of golf and after each hole they show where
you are in the standings. By the way, when you check you standings be sure
to note some of the characters names when you look. They have characters
from tons of different 64 games. This game provides for a great challenge,
especially is you don't play golf much. There is always something new to
challenge you in this game.
Game Play-Fun: 10 out of 10
Let me tell you that this game never gets old. The main thing to play
when you start out is Get Character mode which will take a while,
then when you are done unlocking all of the characters, you might want
to try Ring Shot mode which should keep you playing for a while. When
you are done with Tournament mode and have unlocked all of the courses
and characters, it might be time to try the excellent multi player capability.
In multi player that have types of games that only work in multi player, like
my favorite, Golf Slots. You play a slot machine which picks the three clubs
you use for that hole, if you get three stars, you get to use all of the clubs,
if you get a star and two other clubs, you only get to use those clubs. When
you are playing one player once you have beaten everything it is still fun
because each hole is different each time you play it because of the wind,
and the direction of the wind, so you have to vary your shots a little to win.
This game never gets old for me, and it probably never will.
Frustration
No real frustration, except when you hit a bad shot, or the ball never stops
rolling for a while. That is really annoying because you have to wait until it
completly stops for you to continue play.
Replayability: 8 out of 10
This game lets you replay your shots and see them from a different angle
which is really neat. Although the replay is good, I think it could have been
a little bit better, with some more special effects. Also if you do really
good on the hole it will keep it in the options menu, and you can replay it
with some really sweet music in the background too.
Game Value: 10 out of 10
This game is definitely worth the price because the game is challenging
and stays challenging. It almost never gets old, and is a must have for
Nintendo fans everywhere. Great game, worth the price!
Overall: 10 out of 10
A great game that gets a well-earned round of applause. BUY IT!!!!!!
