The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Reviewed by Michael Wells
The most obvious question about Zelda for those who have not yet
played it and maybe even some that have is, Does it live up to the
hype? In a word, yes. I have played this game for about 15 hours so
far. With that time under my belt I can safely say that this is the
greatest game of all time, I cannot say that enough people, greatest
game of all time! What makes it so great you ask? Well for one thing,
it is not like Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie in the sense that you do not
just walk around an assortment of levels collecting stars or jiggys.
In this game you have to actually think, I characterize this game as
more of an adventure game than an action game. it's actually pretty
non linear in a linear sense. What that means is even though you have
to accomplish certain things, not all of the time do you have to do it
in a certain order. That makes for a very enjoyable experience.
Graphics 10 out of 10
The graphics on this puppy are crisp, clear, in a word perfect. The realism
of this game is so intense you will have to wear special eyewear just so
you don't fry your retinas. I especially like how the scenery changes from
day to night, that kicks butt. Although I believe that graphics don't
necessarily kill a game, it doesn't hurt to have them this good. To sum it
up, these graphics rock!
Music and Sound 10 out of 10
The sound in this game is awesome, the ambient sounds are enough to
make you cry out in delight. I like how the sounds change when the time
changes. The music is great also, although when I play a game I don't
really concentrate much on the music, you can't help but like the
music in Zelda.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
This game is not only immense fun, it is also challenging. Not so challenging
that it is nearly impossible. Sometimes I find myself throwing the controller
down in fury and switching off the machine, five minutes later I'll pick up
the controller and try out an idea I have and boom it works. Then I'll think
how ingenious it really was. This game excels at making you think, its not
just action and adventure its also part puzzle. A good combination.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
When I play Zelda, I find myself starting at around Noon after a light lunch,
then I find myself quitting at three in the morning. It's so addictive that I
can't put it down, I do have to turn it off for meals but that is it. This
grabs you from the start screen and holds on tight until you finally have
to turn it off (albeit for an hour at the most ;) There is so much to do in this
game that you could explore for hours and not be the least bit bored.
Frustration
The game does frustrate you I admit it, but the frustration doesn't last
long. You might get stuck and get mad, but a few seconds later you will be
back at it. That is the best kind of frustration heheheh.
Game Value 10 out of 10
I would pay anything for this game, within reason of course. The price on
this game is definitely reasonable. The game is worth that and more.
Nuff said? Thought so.
Overall 10 out of 10
In conclusion, everyone should own this game. Period. This game is one for
the ages, it should be a proud part of any gamers collection. If you must try
before you buy go ahead, but be prepared to go out the next day and buy the
game. You won't be disappointed, this game is for all ages, so you parents
out there should have no complaints. Maybe except for the lack of sleep
they will be getting.
