Donkey Kong 64
Reviewed by Josh
Rare has always represented the best that Nintendo has to offer and
Donkey Kong 64 is no exception. The super simian has finally gotten
his own game for Nintendo 64, and it's well worth the wait. The
awesome ape hasn't changed a bit, and neither has the story. This is
how it goes. K.Rool has built a huge machine the size of an island that
can destroy D.K. and has gone to D.K.'s island jungle home. But, he has
crashed into a huge rock and knocked the machine all out of whack. But
stopping K.Rool isn't all that he has to do. K.Rool has monkey napped 4 of
Donkey's best friends and stolen all 201 of his golden bananas. But he
isn't all alone. Along the way he can save his friends who will then
become playable characters. Plus 4 other friends have come to help.
They are Cranky, Funky, Candy, and the ever persistent ghost of Wrinkly.
Along the way he runs into K.Lumsy a giant kremling with a giant heart.
Of course he'd be glad to help but he's been locked up by K.Rool for being
kind, which adds another task to the chimp's agenda. He has to find 8 keys
to unlock K.Lumsy's cage. Plus he must help Snide a weasel recover 40
blueprints and the great banana fairy find 20 of her friends who were
scared of by K.Rool. That's almost 280 objectives! But of course a great
story isn't all this game has to offer.
Graphics: 5 out of 5
Another thing that rare has always stood for is graphics. And DK64 takes
full advantage rare's talents and N64's capabilities. The graphics are
breathtaking. They're so smooth and clear you'll lose yourself in the game.
They're so good you'll never wonder what something is. Whether it's a fire,
water, grass, mud, or a kremling you'll know what it is. But that's too
subtle for the graphics of this game. They're so good I can't describe them
fully. You have to play it to believe it.
Music and Sound: 5 out of 5
Music and sound are great in this game also. The sounds fit every action
and the music fits every situation. And the music is smooth and easy so
you'll never get nervous or anxious or scared. It makes the game all the better.
Game Challenge: 4 out of 5
As much as I pressed on the objectives in the intro, the game isn't
super-hard or impossible. In fact many of the objectives are to easy.
Some are as simple as hitting a switch. But they're not all that simple.
Some objectives are mind-bending and will keep you playing. And they're
all fun, of course.
Game Play-Fun: 5 out of 5
This game is fun.Hands down it's one of the funniest games ever. It's
just great. The world's are huge and fun to explore. The mini-games
are cool and fun to play. The 5 different characters are as varied as
ice is from fire which make them fun. And the play control is perfect.
which make it fun. It's also funny and will give you a laugh in dire times.
Frustration
The only frustration in this game is that the challenges are sometimes
really hard. But don't break your controller in anger. It's not that hard.
Replayability: 5 out of 5
Come on back and explore a bit. As you progress through the game you
have to come back and replay worlds to find new areas and complete
objectives you couldn't before.
Game Value: 5 out of 5
This game is worth every penny. you'll love this game so much you'll
wonder why you didn't go flat broke from buying it. And don't worry,
you won't...hopefully.
Overall: 10 out of 10
This game is good. No, this game is great. No, no, this game is great.
NO, this game is awesome! NO, NO, NOOO, this..game...is..PERFECT!!! So
in conclusion, buy it, it's great.
