Chameleon Twist
Reviewed by Mike Tyndall
Chameleon Twist, one of the newest games for the N64, it may be
the strangest. The story is as follows: A chameleon falls into a pot
while following a rabbit and is warped to a strange world. The
chameleon is transformed into a very much different type of thing.
You use your tongue to hop gaps, pole vault to high places, and eat
enemies. You can spit out the enemies. It is the only attack you have.
You must travel through six worlds, Jungle Land, a huge Jungle.
Halfway through Jungle Land, you travel through a mine. There is also
Ant Land, Kid's Land, Ghost Castle, Desert Castle, and Bomb Land.
There is also a hidden stage called ?, which you can get by collecting
20 Crowns in each level. The ? stage allows you to fight a boss of your
choice at any time you like, each boss represented above the door by
something in the corresponding level. For example, an ant represents
the queen ant. In the ? stage, you don't have to go through the boss's level
to fight them. You must collect Crowns, which are usually in hard-to-get
places. Hearts refill health. In Battle Mode, the goal is to eat up enemies
that don't attack you and spit them at the other players. When all the
other players have fallen off the cliff, the last remaining player gets
the win. Battles are usually quick, because I pulled off 102 battles in
less than 45 minutes.
Graphics 8 out of 10
The graphics are Super Mario 64-style, allowing you to adjust views.
Sure, they're not the greatest in the world, but they are definitely good
enough. They score an eight on a scale of ten, according to me. Everything
is easy to identify, so that's part of why they get an eight. Some may
argue with me at this rating, but I still think it fits.
Music and Sound 9 out of 10
Music and sound are good enough for a nine. The music fits the stages
well, and some of the sounds are weird, but enjoyable. The tongue
sounds are especially weird.
Game Challenge 9.5 out of 10
Chameleon Twist is a very hard game. It may only have six levels,
but the levels are very long and hard. There is lots of puzzle involved,
and it may take someone pretty smart to get through this one. If you
haven't found out how to beat the bosses on the Internet, they are
nearly impossible. They are incredibly hard even if you do know.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
Battle Mode is very very fun. Battle Mode makes the game worth
buying. You won't know how fun it is until you play it, but believe
me, after you have played it, you will buy it within weeks.
Frustration
The only frustration is losing in Battle Mode.
Replayability 10 out of 10
Battle Mode. Those two words say it all.
Game Value 10 out of 10
BUY IT!!!!
Overall 9.5 out of 10
THIS GAME RULES!!!! Everything about it is great. It is definitely worth buying.
