Blast Corps

Blast Corps, one of the first 20 games to hit the shelves for the N64 is a pretty
good game. The point of it is to go around and clear the path for a runaway nuclear
missile while trying to find the six scientist that can destroy the missile. You also
must save survivors, and collect these things called RDUS. And the bonus levels
add to the fun and excitement while you race against the clock and even play a
Pac-Man type game.
Graphics 8 out of 10
Although the graphics on this game are detailed well they could use some work.
But you can still tell what things are almost perfectly and you will probably enjoy
the graphics on this game.
Sound 9 out of 10
The sound effects are great on this game from explosions to running into walls.
Even honking horns and police sirens. You shouldn't be that disappointed about the
games sounds.
Music 6 out of 10
The music on this game got a little annoying to me at times but they had a pretty
good variety of tunes, but as I said annoying. But it doesn't matter that much because
I didn't even pay attention to the music, I only was aware of it when I listened to it
so not the biggest factor in the game.
Game Play 8 out of 10
The game play on the game is great, with all the different vehicles you must learn
different strategies. Some you have to just run into the buildings others you have
to fly above and kind of but stomp like in Mario, you even get to shoot missiles with
one of the vehicles. Another game play factor is your need to problem solve. You must
think of different ways to get secret vehicles and how to get to the scientist and such.
Game play is absolutely great in this game. They also have three sets of levels, easy,
medium and hard. But you can't choose which one you start with you have to work
your way up. Overall they made this game difficulty medium, the easy and medium
levels were easy to beat, even most of the hard ones were easy to beat but the thing
is your goal is to get a platinum medal on each and every level which can be difficult.
Replay Value 5 out of 10
Lacking of a multi-player mode this game loses lots of points but like I said before
you can try and find all of the secret cars and get all of the Platinum medals which
give it some replay value.
Frustrations
This game can be frustrating because some of the vehicles are very hard to use to
blow up building such as the side swipe vehicle and it is very hard to beat levels.
Another hard thing is getting all the Platinum medals, for the races you have to
beat very difficult times and most know about shortcuts in the track. Other then
that it's not very frustrating.
Game Value 9 out of 10
I've seen this game for $20 used at Funcoland, which is a great value, probably one
of the cheapest games out there, not because it is bad but because it is older. It is
worth your $20, so I suggest going out and buying it if you have some spare cash.
Overall 8 out of 10
This is a great game, and can give hours of fun and can keep you thinking over the
summer so I suggest that you give Blast Corps a try, I mean after all RARE did make it.
