BattleTanx
Reviewed by Ian McClain
Battle Tanx is search and destroy game set in the post-apocalyptic future.
That's all I'm gonna say about the story. You want more? Read the back of the
box! You get to drive a tank and kill stuff, carnage issues. My first impression
of this game was it's smooth controls. They're easy to grasp and just right.
Much easier than driving a real tank, I'd imagine. You can save your game on a
controller pak or use codes, convenient!
Graphics 8 out of 10
The graphics on this game are just all average. They're nothing to brag about.
They're clean and it's easy enough to see what's what, but there by no means
spectacular. There is fog on the game as there usually is on 64 games. Nine
times out of ten you will be able to see what's firing at you, and if you can't
see it there is an arrow above upcoming tanks on the screen(with the radar
item, a common power up), so you should be surprised. Explosions, debris, and
smoke add a lot of destructive feel to the game, similar to smashing things
on Rampage.
Music and Sound 6.5 out of 10
The music is there. That's about all I can tell you. It's not great. Some
different tracks, maybe more military oriented, could help. I don't really
care about the music on games anyway. When is the last time you heard
"Man you got to get this game, the music is just awesome!"?
Game Challenge 7 out of 10
I've only played the game all the way through on easy, but there are medium
and hard levels to chose from and they provide additional difficulty for
insecure men who need to prove there manhood. There's only about 15 levels
in the game, so you can probably beat it in an hour if you know what you're doing.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
Fun, fun, fun. That's what this game is about. So far this game seems to be
getting mediocre scores, but it's just so much fun to play. There's a variety
of cool weapons such as lasers, mines, and (my favorite) the nuke (ohhhhhh
yeahhhhhhh). I love to cruise around an blow up buildings or just ran over some
abandon cars and have myself a monster truck rally. Even better you can invite
three friends over to increase the mayhem. There are four multi modes and
the best is battle lords: it's sort of like capture the flag.
Frustration
If you have no friends this game is frustrating. Why? It's all about the multi
player modes. If you play this game solo you'll probably get bored fast on
account of it's lack of length. Other than that this game is surprisingly smooth.
Replayability 9 out of 10
I was inclined to give this a 10 were it not for the short main game. The
multi player games have big potential for replay though.
Game Value
If your looking for a new multi game to blow up your friends in then you
should defiantly make this game a priority to try. If you don't play multi
much then forget it. It costs about 60 bucks, but if you've got the dough...
