Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
Reviewed by VJ Kapur
Well two years after the amazing epic adventure The Legend of Zelda comes it sequel.
I must say I am a little disappointed. Though I remember clearly the day millions of
gamers flocked to the store to purchase this rather mediocre game pak, I also
remember having a fit when I saw how bad it was. I played through the game, for
some reason, only to wonder how this game could be related to the great game I
played two years prior. I never really figured it out.
Graphics 2 out of 10
The graphics of this game can be described in full by just one, and only one word - dumb.
Not only did the blocky sprite textures disturb the eye, I remember being quite
nauseated by them. All screens of the game look like a zoomed in computer image.
Every sprite shown in such little glory. Even at that time those graphics were below
average. I seriously think more effort could have been put into this aspect of the game.
But, because of the amount of data in the game and the cart sizes of that time, I will
spare it a 0 on my grading scale for graphics.
Music and Sound 1 out of 10
I just had a flashback of one of the worst soundtracks I have ever been unfortunate
enough to experience. Twangy, screechy, then at times soft and unbearably slow.
This is the music of Link. It really lacked. The sound effects were not really there.
Only when you retrieve something did a little tune pop up for a second, and even
then, complementing the music. But the size of the game forced it, just like the
graphics, so a 1 out of 10 it is.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
One of the most difficult and mind bending games you'll ever quit at the beginning
of. Giving it a 10 took much contemplation due to the fact that the challenge of
this particular thing wasn't a good thing. It was too hard. Guiding link through
mind bending, controller snapping, aneurism inducing, challenging maps wasn't
entertaining in any way. So remember not to take that 10 as a good thing.
Game Play-Fun 0 out of 10
The rating pretty much says it all doesn't it? It just wasn't fun. What can I
say. Too challenging, bad graphics, bad sound, not fun. Let's just leave it at that.
Frustration
You bet! Link is so frustrating it could force a weak minded person to suicide.
I've pretty much covered the reasons why so why go through them again.
Replayability 0 out of 10
You'll never play it a second time.
Game Value 0 out of 10
DON'T BUY IT. Not that you would find a copy nowadays anyway. It wasn't worth the
50 then and it isn't worth the 2 now.
Feeling 2 out of 10
Buying this game, many expected a continuation of the original - a GOOD game. And
of course disappointment. But on the plus it kept the story running. It brought back
a little nostalgia.
Overall 1 out of 10
Overall, this game left much to be desired. It is a void in the Zelda series that is
best left alone. It doesn't reflect the rest of the series in any way. It is a totally
different game.
