Thunder and Lightning
Reviewed by Matt
Thunder and Lightning, well, many people probably never heard of
this game. This game is a variation on the game Breakout. You have
this board and you have to hit all these squares and make them all
disappear, but you if you miss the ball, you die. Let me try to draw
an example. *=square, |=you, -=paddle, 0=ball

So you try to get rid of all those squares. Its very fun and addicting.
Graphics 6 out of 10
This game isn't graphically demanding, so it didn't need anything
High-Tech. Its like and updated Atari game. There are many rich colors
and nothing glitchy, and its not 3-d. Its a very simple 2-d perspective
exactly like the one I drew above. Everything is animated pretty well.
Even the guy (Mr. Chin) is animated pretty well. The backgrounds are
nicely done too. There really isn't much else to say, its like trying to
describe the graphics of a pin ball game.
Music and Sound 4 out of 10
AHHHHHHHH! What were they thinking here? Its the same music for
every level. Its very tinny and very grating. The sound is pretty good.
When the squares are hit it makes a hearty sound and when you get
a power-up it makes a cool sound too. Of course there is the sound
you get when the ball hits the paddle. It makes a tiny Thwack noise.
That is probably every sound in this game.
Game Challenge 10 out of 10
Very hard, I have not even beaten it yet. There are 25 levels and
I only made it to level 22. You can get power-ups by hitting either
a submarine, airplane, or flying saucer and something comes out of
it. But its hard to hit, and you usually don't get what you want. This
game gets harder by the level. The higher the level, the harder it is
by presenting different obstacles. Some of those obstacles are
Weird Red Blob with 2 beaty eyes: It attaches itself to your paddle
after you hit its nest. This makes you move slower, therefore making
it harder to get the ball. The ball has to hit it for it to come off.
Seaweed Gobbliing Ball Thing: It gobbles your ball and spits it out
and it is split in half and you have two balls, but, they are smaller
and harder to see. You can only restore the ball to its original size
by getting a power.
Pig Looking thing standing on a cloud: If you hit it, it throws a bolt
of lightening at you and you are paralyzed for a couple seconds.
It does destroy some of the squares for you though.
Turtles that impede your progress: These Turtles come down and
on the first open space change into squares. I hate these things!
Barriers: It speeds up the ball and they don't break unless you a
certain power-up. They are very annoying.
Game Play-Fun 8 out of 10
This game is more addicting than Bust A Move. Its a lot of fun
and the two player cooperative mode is a blast. It takes half a
second to learn, but I have not seen anyone master it. My Uncle
played this game more than I have and he is still not a master.
This is an overall really fun game. You can pick it up anytime
without getting to involved.
Frustration
VERY FRUSTRATING! I cannot tell you the number of times you
will think that you hit the ball or think that the ball bounced of
a side or your paddle in the oddest way. But this is nerve-racking
frustration. Its the fun frustration.
Replayability 10 out of 10
Chances are you won't beat this game, so you will always be
trying. Even if you did, you probably couldn't do it again. This
game is always good to play anytime you can. Its like solo-pong.
Game Value 10 out of 10
Well, if you go to Funcoland and they actually have this game, I
will be very surprised. It is really hard to find, and I have yet to
find anywhere any cheats or game genie codes for it. It may be
one of the best ways to spend your 50 cents though. It is really worth it.
Overall 9 out of 10
Very fun and challenging game. You will really like and it is very
innovative. It will be the best 50 cents you will ever spend at
Funcoland. I am sad that this game will never be well known and
will be forever lost in the library of Nintendo games. I very much
recommend this game to anyone. It is completely age and gender
neutral. My grandmother has even tried it. Well, this is one Mr.
Chin game that doesn't involve food.
