Super Mario Bros.
Reviewed by Noah Detweiler
About four years ago, when the original Nintendo was still popular, I
used to go over to my friend Justin Owades' house to play with his
Nintendo system. There was one game that I was crazy about. That
was Super Mario Bros. I always liked climbing those beanstalks, going
into those pipes, and jumping onto those flagpoles.
Even though now Nintendo has come out with ultra-3d Mario games, the
original Super Mario Bros. is and will always be my all-time favorite game.
Graphics 3 out of 10
The graphics in this game are not very good, obviously because it was
made for the original Nintendo. My favorite graphics in this game are
the fireworks after completing a level, and when Mario gets bigger by
eating a mushroom.
The only graphic that really looks weird is Bowser. He looks nothing
like the Bowser in other Mario games. That would make sense, though,
because this is the first Mario game that Bowser was ever in.
Music and Sound 5 out of 10
Music quality is an important factor, but it can also be judged by the tunes.
One tune that I think is very catchy is the one in levels 1-2 and 4-2. The
percussion, in my opinion, is very nice.
The 8-bit sound isn't too impressive, but I always like hearing the sound of
Mario jumping.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
Although this game is very primitive, it is very fun. Players will realize
this the second that they see Bowser, and the excitement will build up as
they work on the final levels of the game. There's always something
different to discover - a beanstalk, a bonus level, Minus World, or
something else.
Frustration
Yes, you do feel very frustrated when you are sent back to the first
level from the very last segment of the game. But if you keep practicing,
it gets easier and easier to beat levels and you will do better.
Unless you are in a level where it is important to move very quickly,
it is usually a good idea to move slowly through the levels and to make
sure you are prepared for whatever could come next, even if you have
passed the level before.
Replayability 5 out of 10
It is fun to explore in this game. That is one of the reasons why it is fun
to replay this game. Since there are different warp zones, sometimes it
is exciting to see how you do one the worlds in between the levels that
you did first.
Game Value 10 out of 10
You can buy this game used for 29 cents! With that in mind, I think anybody
would say that this game is defiantly worth the price. This game is also
very exciting and interesting. It is also something interesting to do with
friends when they come over.
Overall 10 out of 10
As one can see from this review, Super Mario Bros. is really a great game,
since the year it came out, 1987. It is my favorite game of all-time, and
I'm sure that it's the same with many other kids.
