Star Tropics
Reviewed by Hadoken!
Released in 1990 for the NES, Star Tropics was a very famous
game at its time. However, some considered it a ripoff of the
Zelda series (well, Nintendo made both games). Still, though, it
was a very popular game! If you've got some extra time on your
hands, pick this one up!
Graphics: 10 out of 10
It's true that the old, outdated, 8-bit graphics seem pretty basic
these days, but in 1990, WOW!! The visuals in this game are simply
amazing! It's also extremely worth it if you can actually beat the
game, because the ending graphics are amazing. Not to mention the
fact that the landscapes and characters are superbly drawn. The
animation is pretty good, too. The graphical quality of this game
matches that of most Game Boy Color games today.
Music and Sound: 10 out of 10
The music isn't too loud, and the sounds aren't too annoying. The
door-closing sound is pretty wierd, though. It sounds like a suction
cup or something. Still, the music is great and the other sounds are
great as well.
Game Challenge: 10 out of 10
This game offers a great challenge for devoted gamers. The bosses
are almost too hard, and the levels are really puzzling sometimes,
but this just makes you want to play it more, if you really think
about it. This bad boy will keep you up at night! In short, it's neither
too easy nor too hard. It's just right.
Game Play-Fun: 9 out of 10
It's a lot of fun for people who like RPG/action type games. If you're
a fan of Zelda or even Crystalis, you'll love this one. The only thing is,
some of the bosses are a tad too hard to reach and defeat, so that'll
cause some cursing, flying controllers, and what have you.
Frustration
Uuuuurgghhh! Like I said before, the only frustrating part of this game
will be the bosses. You should get some experience with other games
like Crystalis and Zelda before you go jumping into this.
Replayability: 7 out of 10
Unfortunately, this is one category where the game lacks in real "flair".
The final battle is really nothing to look forward to, since it'll most
likely break your joypad if you have a short temper. Hey, I broke mine!
The TV gladly takes my controller-chucking abuse.
Game Value: 10 out of 10
Well, this is easy, because that store Defuncto Land charges about a
dollar for this game. So, if you've got some loose change, a NES, and a
way to get there, buy this game! It's worth it.
