Super Mario Bros. 3
Reviewed by Patrick
Super Mario Bros. 3 is probably by far the best Mario action game ever made for the
Nintendo Entertainment System! In the sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2, Bowser decides
once again to capture the Princess of Mushroom Kingdom. But this time, it will be
tougher! Bowsers 7 evil kids, Larry, Morton Jr., Wendy, Roy, Iggy, Lemmy, and
Ludwig have stolen the magic wands of the 7 kings in Mushroom World and turned
them into animals! Each one is guarding a wand on board their airship. Mario must
fight the Koopa Kids and turn the kings back to their old selves again, then go to
Bowser's Castle and save Princess Toadstool! Along the way he will encounter
lots of monsters, including Smilax, Nipper, Chain Chomp, Big Bertha, Jelectro,
and those old Goombas and Parakoopas! He'll find new items that were not in
Super Mario Bros. 1 or 2, Including the Raccoon suit, the Frog suit, even a Hammer
Bro. suit that all have special abilities! He'll have to go through 8 perilous worlds,
with hundreds of enemies, including Bowser's 7 sinister children! During the game
you get to play lots of bonus games, including a game you can play anytime with 2
players. It is a clone of the original Mario Bros., and you can play anytime you want
as long as you have a friend!
Graphics 7 out of 10
For a Super Mario Bros. game, the graphics were great! Compared to the other two
Super Mario Bros. games, it is like a Super NES game. In fact, when I first saw it, I
thought it WAS a Super NES game!
Music and Sound 5 out of 10
Pretty good music, catchy tunes! If you listen to the Bowser Battle music in Super
Mario RPG, you'll notice it is just a remake of the Bowser Battle music here!
Game Challenge 7 out of 10
It kept me busy quite a while. The levels are easy at first, and progress slightly in
difficulty after each world. Worlds 4 through 6 kept were tough, and I never did
make it past world 7 without using the warp whistle, which was disappointing
because I wanted to see Ludwig von Koopa! I think this game was really challenging,
but don't expect a big challenge out of Bowser. It kind of makes you notice exactly
why he needed the Koopalings' help.
Game Play-Fun 9 out of 10
Man, this is the best Mario game I've ever played for the Nintendo Entertainment
System! I liked the Koopa Kids, good way to introduce a new character! I like all
of it, except I think Bowser was a bit of a let down, and I think they should've gotten
Yoshi in there somewhere.
Frustration
Well, I have to admit that It is difficult doing things such as getting through Iggy's
airship, and getting to Ludwig (which, as I mentioned earlier, I never DID manage to
do), but once you get more confident that the enemies aren't so tough it's not that
hard. I got pretty frustrated during worlds 7 and 8, though.
Replayability 8 out of 10
Are you kidding? This game is always replayable! You have to play it quite a while
just to get tired of seeing Wendy O' Koopa, etc. get demolished! The only problem is
after a while it gets too easy. But if you don't play it for a while, you will come
back with less memory and experience of the game and it'll be almost as good as new!
Overall 8 out of 10
Overall, it's the best Mario game for the NES!
