RoboCop
Reviewed by Mike
Part man, Part machine, All cop. murdered ruthlessly, Detriot police
officer Alex Murphey is restructured and transformed into a
24-hour a day cyborg cop.......RoboCop!!!! The Future of Law Enforcement!!!
Orion Pictures made this AWESOME movie, but how does the Data East
game compare??? lets examine it closely.......
Graphics: 7 out of 10
The graphics are clear and nice, the backgrounds are nicely detailed,
and RoboCop really does look like RoboCop. RoboCop looks good when
he fires guns, but walking though has only 3 frames, bummer. ED-209
looks great, and has 8 frames!!! wuuuuuu huuuuuu!!!!!! The graphics
stick nicely in your mind as a lasting image.
Music and Sound: 5 out of 10
Music........ not really a big variety here. there's, hmmmmm, the RoboCop
theme, and the target game theme, and the RoboCop theme, and the
death theme, and the RoboCop theme, and uh... did I mention the RoboCop
theme?? the Robo theme is greatly done, but it's very repetitive. the intro
theme, before game start is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!! I groove to it every time I
play!!! First, its the copyright, playing part of the Robo theme, then, it's
a cool, laid back version of the main theme, (RoboCop) then a Jazz type
swing song, the it plays a piece from the soundtrack (I think) thats like
a cool rock beat, then it finishes up showing the directives, then plays a
faster version of the main theme. the sound is generic, gun blasts, and
motorcycles, all sound generally good. for average Data East sound.
Game Challenge: 8 out of 10
Beat the game, without Game Genie??? I pity those who try. this
game is VERY difficult, because you lose energy as you play, but the
GG codes will get you through without a scratch, and there's an
infinite continues code, but I won't tell, look it up on this fine
web-site (My favorite, actually!) and there's no passwords, so
without Game Genie, you might as well scream, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Game Play-Fun: 10 out of 10
this game, with Game Genie, is a REALLY fun game, the great (ok, not
really great...) music, simple but stiff game controls, the good graphics,
and bosses, make this one of the most fun games on the old school NES,
in fact, thats all I have, the NES, and the games never tire.
Frustration
Almost nill. But without the game genie, you'll be an angry pickle. you'll
want to smack it with a hammer!!!!!!! So only go near it if you have a good
tolerance level. all in all, this game isn't too frustrating.
Replayability: 6 out of 10
Every thing is the same, so it gets very repetitive, but if your a RoboCop
lover, like me, you'll get a kick out of this game, because ED-209 is fun to
watch, and you can just laugh knowing how dumb he is, and how easily your
gonna beat him.
Game Value: 3 out of 10
Not really worth it, unless you want it because; A) you need it to
complete your collection, B) you LOVE RoboCop, or C) Your a good player
and need an adequate challenge. overall, $3.00 and Funcoland, is a so/so
price for this game.
Overall: 9 out of 10
The Future of Law Enforcement needs to get a new composer, and a new
animator. but other than that, RoboCop does a LOT better than the
impossible RoboCop 2, on NES, and the unbelievably EASY RoboCop 3 on NES.
Yup, New RoboCop games are in production, and they'll be better, (don't
believe me?? check out the previews on IGN.com for PS2) but this one
has a lasting place in the RoboCop universe, and the Great Nintendo
Entertainment System.
