Mega Man 2
Reviewed by Kyle Mauhl
The Mega Man Series has always been one of my favorites. If it says
"Mega Man" on the box, you can bet that it will be an awesome game.
This game, Mega Man 2, was the first Mega Man game I ever played, and
it's a great one! The story line goes like this: In the year 20XX, after
being defeated by Mega Man in Mega Man 1, Dr. Wily has come back to
wipe out Mega Man and his creator, Dr. Light. He has sent out 8 new
robots, Wood Man, Metal Man, Flash Man, Bubble Man, Heat Man, Quick
Man, Crash Man, and Air Man. This time the odds are really stacked
against Mega Man, but with the help of Dr. Light and his new weapons,
Mega Man can defeat Dr. Wily once again, or can he?
Graphics 9 out of 10
For a game made in 1989, Mega Man had some awesome graphics! These
are some of the best graphics on the NES ever! Great graphics have
always been a Mega Man trademark. Every thing from the waterfall in
Bubble Man's stage, to the cloudy sky in Air Man's stage, to the gray
sky in Dr. Wily's first stage look great and fit the stage perfectly. The
animation on Mega Man, the bosses, and the enemies is good, too.
Music and Sound 10 out of 10
Now here is some great music! Another staple of the Mega Man games,
Mega Man 2's music is also some of the best on the NES. I love all the
themes, but I'd have to say that Bubble Man's, Wood Man's, and Dr. Wily's
first and second stage themes are my favorites. Like the graphics, the
music fits the stages perfectly. The sound effects are good, but you
won't be paying much attention to them since the music is so great!
Game Challenge 6 out of 10
This is not a very hard game. There are 2 difficulty levels: normal and
difficult. Even on difficult, the game isn't well, difficult. I can beat it
in about an hour on normal. There are a total of 14 stages, 8 stages
where you choose a stage go through it, beat the boss, repeat, and 6
Dr. Wily stages. There are some hard parts, like Quick Man's stage (hint,
use Flash Man's weapon during the laser beam portions) and Dr. Wily's
third stage (spikes everywhere! I hate spikes!) If you have never played
a Mega Man game, this is a good place to start.
Game Play-Fun 10 out of 10
This is an extremely fun game! Sometimes, I just like to cruise right
through the game and it will still be a hell of a lot of fun, even though
I've played through it about 50 times! The control is perfect, although
I wish there was I slide move, which was added in Mega Man 3. I don't
know what else to say about the fun factor, other than it's just awesome!
Frustration
Like I said before, there are some hard parts, but there is little frustration.
When you die, you can only blame it on yourself, not the control. Also, a
password system is added, so you don't always have to play through it in
1 setting. Energy tanks were another great addition, just grab one and
you can refuel your health anytime, which also takes away from the
frustration of the original Mega Man.
Replayability 9 out of 10
As I said before, the game is so fun you'll want to play it over and over!
However, there aren't very many secrets, so those of you that always must
find every secret in the game won't find much here.
Game Value 10 out of 10
You can get a copy for about 5-10 dollars. Being so great, I would buy it
if it were still 50 dollars! If you haven't already, go buy it!
Overall 10 out of 10
Overall, this is one of the greatest games ever made on any system! I've
pretty much said every thing I can about how great this game is, and every
true gamer on this planet must play this game! I give it my highest
possible recommendation!
